The Green Lantern

Thursday, 28 April 2011 13:16

Synopsis: In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Ryan Reynolds is emerging as the frontrunner for a coveted role opposite Denzel Washington in the thriller Safe House, from director Daniel Espinoza (Snabba Cash), reports Deadline.com.

This is the project I last told you about in early July. It has the following synopsis: When a group of villains destroy a CIA-operated safe house, the facility's young house-sitter must work to move the criminal who's being hidden there to another secure location.

Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity might be spurring the hottest catfight known to man; Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively are both vying for the female lead in the director's sci-fi thriller, reports the Heat Vision Blog, which undoubtedly creates all sorts of naughty visions in the heads of fanboys.

Warner Bros. must be digging what they're seeing from The Green Lantern, because a sequel to the Martin Campbell-directed superhero flick is already in the works and a screenplay is being prepared.

Variety reports that Michael Goldenberg (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Contact) has been tapped to write The Green Lantern 2, based on a treatment whipped up by the first film's three scribes, Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim. Goldenberg evidently re-wrote The Green Lantern, which just wrapped production in Louisiana.

Warner Bros. has just released four teaser posters for their highly anticipated summer 2011 film The Green Lantern, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong and Peter Sarsgaard. All four actors are featured in the new one-sheets, and all are looking good. However, if I had to choose, I would say that Sarsgaard (as villain "Hector Hammond") is my favorite. I mean, check out that moustache! The dude is bad news...

1st look: 'The Green Lantern'

Thursday, 15 July 2010 11:02

The folks at Entertainment Weekly got their hands on the first official peek at Ryan Reynolds in his Green Lantern suit (although of course there's some photoshop at play here; how could there not be?).

Not being knowledgeable of The Green Lantern mythos at all, I can't really offer a deep comment or critique one way or the other. I will say that it looks kind of cool in terms of being airbrushed and part of a magazine cover, but let me see some footage before I can really opine on it.

In other Green Lantern news, Reynolds was reportedly injured on the New Orleans set earlier this week. According to a source of E! Online, the actor suffered a "minor injury" to his shoulder on Monday. Nothing to get concerned about, however - the bruise didn't cause any filming delays.

Here's the official synopsis for The Green Lantern, which also stars Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Temuera Morrison and Mark Strong:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries.

Jon Tenney joins 'The Green Lantern'

Friday, 25 June 2010 08:05

"The Closer" star and ex-Teri Hatcher husband Jon Tenney has jumped aboard The Green Lantern, in which he'll play the father to Ryan Reynolds' character Hal Jordan. Tenney joins an already packed cast that also includes Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins, Angela Bassett, Mark Strong and Temuera Morrison.

As I'm really ignorant in Green Lantern mythology (it's about some dude who becomes an alien or something, right?), I'll let DC Database take it from here (some SPOILERS may be included if the movie follows the comic's background): Martin Jordan was an Air Force test pilot and an employee of Ferris Aircraft. On a fate-filled mission, Martin failed to save a malfunctioning fighter jet and crashed to the ground. His young son Hal witnessed his father's death and was forever haunted by his passing. Hal always wondered if his father died with fear in his heart, and as he grew older, he committed himself to honoring his father's memory and bravery.
