Opening in theaters on March 23rd is the highly anticipated new film The Hunger Games, which is based on the extremely popular novel of the same name by author Suzanne Collins. The film was directed by Gary Ross (Seabiscuit), and stars Academy Award-nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) as the story's hero Katniss Everdeen, as well as Josh Hutcherson (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song), Woody Harrelson (Rampart), Elizabeth Banks (Man on a Ledge), Lenny Kravitz (Precious), Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones), Toby Jones (My Week With Marilyn), Wes Bentley (There Be Dragons), and Donald Sutherland (Klute).
IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with actor Wes Bentley to discuss his role as Seneca Crane in The Hunger Games. The actor discussed the new film, his pivotal role, getting the part, his character's unique facial hair, the inspiration he gained for his role from watching reality television, director Gary Ross' vision for the film, and the brilliant world that author Suzanne Collins has created.
The fourth official clip from The Hunger Games has arrived online. It's a quick one, clocking in at well under one minute, but it is the first to focus on the relationship between Katniess Everdeen and Gale Hawthorne, played respectively by Jennifer Lawrence and Gale Hawthorne.
The last two weeks have seen the first two official clips from The Hunger Games, Lionsgate's much-hyped adaptation of the bestselling novel by Suzanne Collins. With the nationwide release just around the corner this month, the clip parade continues as new one-minute snippet from the film has appeared online.
The sheer amount of marketing material pertaining to The Hunger Games ensured that I long ago ran out of things to say about the adaptation of Suzanne Collins's first novel in the crazy-popular young adult novel trilogy. It's been months of casting speculation, announcements, and endless new images, but today there's a bit of The Hunger Games promotion is quite novel, effectively eye-catching, and really sort of funny.
One day, two big happenings pertaining to The Hunger Games. It's still early, but the second big news on the potentially huge adaptation of Suzanne Collins's first novel in her dystopian Panem trilogy is the release of a new theatrical trailer. It's brief, clocking in at not much more than one minute, but it does a lot with the time, hitting a bunch of big emotional notes, getting across the basic concept of the eponymous competition, and setting up the dystopia of Panem.
With two months to go until The Hunger Games actually arrives in theaters across this great nation of ours, Lionsgate has released yet another new still from the film. This is picture number 473,218 from the anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins's novel, and I am officially out of things to say regarding any still from the dystopia of Panem.
Lionsgate, which just made a major purchase by picking up Summit Entertainment, remains focused on spinning a full-on franchise out of The Hunger Games. The studio is intent on turning the three bestselling novels into four movies, repeating the climactic-novel-as-two-movies formula that has now worked for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. They're ready to haul ass once the first film hits, as Oscar-winner Simon Beaufoy is already at work on the screenplay for Catching Fire, with The Hunger Games director Gary Ross set to return for another round.
Up until now, we've seen nothing official from Jack the Giant Killer, director Bryan Singer's 3D action adventure that uses the beanstalk-climbing fairy tale as the basis for an epic journey. Today, Warner Bros. has gone ahead and dropped the teaser trailer online, complete with thumping giants and what looks to be in-process effects work. Anyone seeing Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows this weekend will see the trailer in theaters, along with the second trailer for a little picture called The Dark Knight Rises, but why not check it out right here and now?
After debuting the full theatrical trailer for The Hunger Games on Monday, two new images from the adaptation of the first novel of Suzanne Collins' science fiction trilogy have made their way online. That trailer represented the most substantial look at the world of Panem after months and months of images from the film simply showed the same three characters hanging out in the woods. One of these two images is in a similar vein, with Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth as Katniss and Gale chilling together in a field, but the other includes Lawrence alongside Elizabeth Banks in her intentionally ridiculous getup as Effie Trinket, the publicity person charged with making sure the public loves Katniss.
After a brief teaser trailer featuring Jennifer Lawrence running through woods and dodging fireballs failed to light the world on fire (no pun intended) in August, Lionsgate has released a second trailer for The Hunger Games, and it provides by far the most extensive look at how director Gary Ross is tackling the world of Suzanne Collins' novel. The principal character of Katniss, played by Lawrence, as well as Gale and Peeta, played respectively by Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, are all established, as are the titular games, a televised annual survival game pitting twenty four young people against each other in this futuristic dystopia's version of bread and circuses. For fans of the book, this is the first look outside of Katniss's native District 12, taking her to the garish and pompous Capital, while for those unfamiliar with the novel series, it succinctly sets up the basic ingredients, using only material from the story's first half. In the process, it omits the brutality and violence inherent in the games, but the desperation of the players hints at the grisliness to come.
