Box Office Roundup: January 21 - 23, 2011 'No Strings Attached' Ties Itself to #1

We certainly seem to love Natalie Portman. Her latest romcom entitled No Strings Attached opened at the #1 spot this weekend with $20 million in grosses. The romantic comedy also stars Ashton Kutcher and a handful of talented actors (including Kevin Kline, Greta Gerwig and Lake Bell) exploring the notion of a “sex friend” relationship.

Last week’s number one feature, The Green Lantern dropped to #2 with an estimated $18.1 million. The film fell 46% which is not too shabby considering that particular genre can really take a tumble with the second weekend. The Dilemma also found itself dropping down to the #3 position earning $9.7 million.

Rounding out the top five includes The King’s Speech and True Grit earning $9.2 million and $8 million respectively. Once again, the Academy Award hopefuls seem to be doing quite nicely, so we shall see how that affects the Oscar nominations this coming Tuesday.

Friday sees the release of The Mechanic starring Jason Statham and Ben Foster, and a small Indie feature called From Prada to Nada.

What did you see this weekend? Will you be checking out The Mechanic or Prada to Nada this coming Friday?
