The number one movie over the weekend was Anthony Hopkins’ exorcism thriller, The Rite, with about $15 million. The weeks other new release, the Jason Statham/Ben Foster flick The Mechanic opened in the #3 spot with around $12 million. Last week’s #1 movie, No Strings Attached managed a strong second weekend with only a 30% drop. It was enough to earn the Natalie Portman/Ashton Kutcher romantic comedy the #2 spot with $13.7 million.
Once again, Black Swan and The Fighter managed solid weekend numbers which could very well carry on until the Oscars’ are announced on February 27, 2011.
Next week sees the release of James Cameron’s Sanctum 3D and a modern day version of Single White Female called The Roommate. Which film are you looking forward to?
