There's not much more than a month until The Avengers arrives in theaters, and, as such, I am contractually obligated to include an update on the superhero team-up on a daily basis.  Today's bit of The Avengers minutiae is an international poster that puts all of those strapping heroes against a black background, with Tony Stark of course being the most prominent.

The week kicked off with ten stills from The Avengers, and in order to help you trudge through the workweek, we've now got a video featurette and no fewer than six behind the scenes images from Marvel's superhero mega-movie.  When Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator/all-around nice guy Joss Whedon was selected to write and direct The Avengers, plenty of people pointed out that Whedon's usual ensembles involve lots of angst, while this superteam is comparatively squeaky-clean.

Hey, summer movie season is right around the corner, and one of the very hugest of all the huge summer movie is no doubt The Avengers.  Right now, our fingers are crossed that this will be such qualitatively, but it's certainly already true quantitatively.  There are, are of course, a whole mess of superheroes from heir own individual shared franchises battling some unknown intergalactic army.  You'll find all the superheroic-types in ten new stills from The Avengers, but you'll find not a single look at the bad guys who misunderstood Asgardian adopted son Loki calls down on an unsuspecting Earth.

A month and a half out from the films release in two and three dimensions, eleven new images from The Avengers have smoothly landed online.  Aside from one still of Thor looking pissed off in the middle of the woods, this batch of images is actually light on the straight-up superheroics.  Instead, it focuses on a major setting within The Avengers.

Best known for his career-defining role as Michael Dawson on the phenomenally successful TV series LOST, actor Harold Perrineau has been giving impressive performances on television and in film for more than twenty years. The gifted actor has appeared in such popular movies as Smoke, Romeo + Juliet, 28 Weeks Later, and The Matrix Trilogy, as well HBO’s ground breaking TV series Oz, and ABC’s short-lived but critically acclaimed series The Unusuals. While Perrineau will return to television this summer on the new TBS series The Wedding Band, first he will be seen on the big screen opposite Oscar-winner Nic Cage, and Guy Pearce in Seeking Justice, which will open in theaters on March 16th.

In the film, which is helmed by veteran director Roger Donaldson (No Way Out, Thirteen Days), Nicolas Cage (Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance) plays Wil Gerard, a man that’s wife (January Jones) has been brutally attacked. While she is in the hospital, Will is visited by a mysterious man named Simon played by Guy Pearce (Memento). Simon says that he represents an organization that helps people who are “seeking justice,” and makes Wil an offer that he cannot refuse. Simon will arrange to have a complete stranger exact vengeance on his wife’s attacker, in exchange for a favor from Wil in the future. He agrees to the deal, and unwittingly puts himself into a dangerous underground vigilante program. While continuing to protect his wife from the truth, he quickly discovers that his quest for justice could lead to deadly consequences and that all is not as it seems. Perrineau plays Jimmy, Wil’s best friend and confidante who has a big secret of his own that may be closer connected to Wil’s mysterious organization than he ever could imagine. Actress Jennifer Carpenter (TV’s Dexter) and veteran actor Xander Berkeley (TV’s 24) round out the film’s talented cast.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with actor Harold Perrineau about his role in Seeking Justice. The talented actor discussed the new film, his character, why he wanted to do the movie, working with director Roger Donaldson, Nic Cage’s unique approach to acting on and off the set, playing a character with a secret and creating his back-story, whether he would “seek justice” or not if given the chance, his next film; which is Kathryn Bigelow’s Untitled Bin Laden Project, his upcoming new TV series, and how he feels now looking back at his time on LOST.

From here through the first week of May, news on The Avengers isn't likely to let up one bit, as Marvel Studios is set to aggressively pimp its biggest movie yet.  If you're already sold on the blockbuster team-up and are thusly wary of hitting a saturation point with spoilery new material, best to just bow out now, because a new international trailer sort of spoils a few fun beats in the film that we hadn't glimpsed until now.

The rallying cry of Marvel's preeminent superteam is, of course, "Assemble!"  As far as we can tell so far, assembly is really the entire point of The Avengers, putting a bunch of superheros and government assassins seen in the previous five Marvel Studios releases into one mega-movie.  They'll all learn valuable lessons about teamwork, as demonstrated by the recent The Avengers poster, which put them all together, fighting as one and striking poses on the battle-ravaged streets of Manhattan.  On six new character posters, whoever, the team pairs off to look cool and combat-ready.  Everyone's accounted for, from Iron Man to Black Widow, and one even adds Cobie Smudlers as SHIELD Agent Maria Hill.  You can never go wrong with Smulders.

About two months ago, The Counselor was a project of which we were wholly unaware.  It wasn't even really a project, really.  Now, though, the Cormac McCarthy-scripted The Counselor is one of the most exciting things going.  The Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist's first screenplay immediately got no less a director than Ridley Scott on board, and with Michael Fassbender attached to star, the supporting cast is coming into focus.  Right now, a trio of Oscar-caliber actors are in early talks, as Natalie Portman, Jeremy Renner, and Javier Bardem all look to join the film.

Marvel, in its endless beneficence, has issued forth amongst us two new stills from The Avengers.  Marvel has made these images count; they don't feature Iron Man pew-pew-pewing through the concrete jungle of Manhattan, Hulk smashing, or Captain America hurling that vibranium shield through alien craniums.  Instead, both of these new stills showcase an ethereal spectacle more stunning than even the biggest visual effects budget could possibly create.  I refer, of course, to the impossibly lovely Cobie Smulders, who plays SHIELD Agent Maria Hill, the right-hand woman to Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in The Avengers.

Since the weekend, Marvel has been counting down to the reveal a brand-new theatrical trailer for The Avengers, the crossover ensemble towards which the studio has been building since 2008's Iron Man.  Yesterday, an official one-sheet teased the new trailer, but today, the two-minute-and thirty-second preview arrived right on time.  Actually, a few minutes early.  Dally no longer, watch away.
