Opening in theaters on March 16th is the new Spanish-language comedy Casa de Mi Padre from director Matt Piedmont (Saturday Night Live), and producers Adam McKay (The Other Guys) and Will Ferrell (Old School). The film stars Ferrell in a completely non-English speaking role along with an excellent cast of Mexican and American actors including Gael Garcia Bernal (Y tu mama tambien), Diego Luna (Milk), Genesis Rodriguez (Man on a Ledge), Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite), Hector Jimenez (Nacho Libre), and Nick Offerman (21 Jump Street).

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with actor and comedian Will Ferrell to talk about his new film Casa de Mi Padre. The hilarious actor discussed the film, his character, the challenges of making a Spanish-language movie, how he learned the complicated language, what new language he wants to master for his next film, ideas for possible sequels, Armando's love for his brother and the affair he has with his brother's wife, what qualities are important in a Will Ferrell character, and the film's Carpenters inspired end-credit musical number.

You will probably recognize former United States Marine turned actor/comedian Rob Riggle from his time as a correspondent on The Daily Show, and as a cast member of Saturday Night Live but he is quickly gaining attention for a string of roles in some of the most popular films in recent years. Riggle is best known from his role as Officer Franklin in one of the most successful comedies of all-time, The Hangover, but he’s also been featured in such high profile films as Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Step Brothers, Going the Distance, The Other Guys, Larry Crowne, and most recently Big Miracle. In fact, the busy actor has not one, but two films opening this month including the big screen adaptation of the classic ‘80s TV series 21 Jump Street, and The Lorax, which opens on March 2nd and is based on the popular children’s book by the legendary author Dr. Seuss.

In the film, Zac Efron plays Ted, an idealistic twelve year-old boy that lives in “Thneed-Ville,” a city that is completely artificial. He eventually embarks on a journey to find the one thing that will win him the heart of the girl of his dreams, Audrey (Taylor Swift), who only wants to see a real tree. While searching for a tree, he discovers that their city has been closed off from the outside world, and meets the reclusive Once-ler (Ed Helms), who recounts the story of how he met the Lorax (Danny DeVito), a grumpy yet charming creature who serves as guardian of the land. But when a young businessman introduces a revolutionary invention from the native Truffula Tree’s tufts, it tragically spirals into a mass overproduction leading to the depletion of the forest, and the creation and isolation of Ted’s town. With the Once-ler’s blessing, and the last Truffula Seed, Ted sets out to remind his town of the importance of nature. Riggle plays O’Hare, the evil mayor of Thneed-Ville and the head of the O’Hare Air Company, which supplies fresh air to Thneed-Ville residents and has no intention of leaving any traces of the Lorax’s world behind.

I recently had a chance to sit down with the absolutely hilarious Rob Riggle to discuss his voiceover work in The Lorax. The comedic actor talked about the new film, his evil character, creating the right voice, working with the directors, Dr. Seuss, the film’s environmental themes, comparisons between his character’s appearance and a certain fellow cast member, singing and “not telling jokes when the whales are dying.”

Adam McKay has now directed three uniquely absurd feature films, all starring Will Ferrell, but he's currently working on a screenplay that would take him away from Ferrell's comforting bosom: an adaptation of 'The Boys', a hyper-violent, sexually explicit comic series written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson.  The comic centers on an elite CIA team tasked with controlling superheroes and doing so with extreme prejudice.  McKay is still whittling away at the script, but he recently revealed that he has begun meeting with actors, including Russell Crowe, for what he describes as a "$100 million, rated R, anti-superhero movie."

Product placement.  Seemingly everybody hates it, yet we all take a certain cynical joy in pointing out egregious instances of attempted product promotion in movies.  The folks at Brandchannel have turned product placement into an obsession, cataloging instances which products turn up, where, and how often.  And since everybody loves movie-based awards, they have taken to issuing annual Brandcameo Awards, recognizing excellence and egregiousness in product placement.  With a whopping 64 featured products, Marvel's Iron Man 2 won the award for most product placement in a single film, while Apple easily took the overall product placement award, as its products were featured in 30% of films that reached number one at the box office in 2010.  Read on for the full list of Brandcameo winners.

Nominees Announced for Inaugural Comedy Awards

Tuesday, 15 February 2011 10:16

This is a truly monumental occasion, as Viacom siblings MTV and Comedy Central announced the nominees for the first annual Comedy Awards.  If their list of nominees is any indication, it'll definitely be an awards show worth watching.  The awards encompass film, television, and even stand-up specials.  Get Him to the Greek, Kick-Ass, The Other Guys, Easy A, and Cyrus are all in the running for Best Movie, while the television categories are dominated by 30 Rock and Modern Family, but it's good to see less widely appreciated shows like Community and Eastbound and Down getting a little love as well.  Other nominees include Alec Baldwin, Ricky Gervais, Helen Mirren, Edgar Wright, Chloe Moretz, Kristen Wiig, Louis CK, David Letterman, and Aziz Ansari.  Check out the full list of nominees right here.

Mark Wahlberg Talks 'Teddy Bear'!

Tuesday, 07 December 2010 18:14

Things have been going well for Mark Wahlberg. His latest film starring opposite Christian Bale, The Fighter, is opening on December 10th to glowing reviews. And of course, this past summer he had a hit comedy with Will Ferrell in The Other Guys.

His next feature will further expand his comedic ability when he takes on Teddy Bear. This Seth MacFarlane directed comedy has Wahlberg co-starring with the titular stuffed animal. The bear will be voiced by MacFarlane who will make his directing debut with the feature.

I saw The Other Guys over the weekend, and though it was mostly just your standard, reasonably funny Will Ferrell/Adam McKay flick, the part we ended up discussing most after it was over was the closing credit sequence.  Conveniently, that sequence is now online courtesy of Moviefone (don’t watch it if you consider a credit sequence that reveals nothing about the plot a spoiler).

The question coming into this weekend was this: would Christopher Nolan's Inception pull of the impossible - a four-peat in the summer? Or would the always reliable team of Adam McKay and Will Ferrell (The Other Guys) finally unseat the recent box office king?

Mark Wahlberg speaks about The Other Guys, capping Derek Jeter, the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, playing "Irish" Micky Ward in The Fighter and more in this exclusive interview with ARTISTdirect.com editor Rick Florino.

Mark Wahlberg never really left Boston. The city's ethos of hard work has been a trademark of the Academy Award nominated actor's career since day one. Wahlberg busts his ass for his craft, and it's evident through his astoundingly intense performances in everything from The Departed to Boogie Nights. There's another side of Boston—that East Coast disdain for sensitivity and straight-for-the-jugular sense of humor—which permeates his grizzled, shoot-first-ask-questions-later performance as Terry Hoitz in the hilarious, The Other Guys.
