Comic-con 2013

Divergent announced itself loud and clear in San Diego today, as Summit Entertainment revealed the first footage from next year's novel adaptation and trotted out members of its cast to a most receptive audience.

Amidst the many established franchises attempting to wow the crowd in Hall H at Comic-Con this year, there are also would-be series jockeying for attention.  Divergent is one such film, an adaptation of the bestselling young adult novel by Veronica Roth, the first in a trilogy ripe for cinematic sequelization.

The author was part of today's Summit Entertainment presentation, leading off the Divergent panel alongside director Neil Burger and stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James.  Eventually, fellow castmembers Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Mekhi Pfifer, Maggie Q, Ansel Eglort, Amy Newbold, Ben-Lloyd Hughes, Christian Madsen, and Ben Lamb.

Harrison Ford is a big deal anywhere, but at Comic-Con, the actor is more like a god.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Ford is in San Diego on the first day of Comic-Con to participate in the Hall H panel for Ender's Game, the long-awaited adaptation of Orson Scott Card's bestselling 1985 sci-fi novel.

Written and directed by Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Ender's Game takes place in a future where humanity has survived one war with an extraterrestrial species known as Formics.  In order to ensure that Earth is ready for the next interstellar war, the planet's military, the International Fleet, recruits the brightest young people from all over the world to train at Battle School, an orbital military academy dedicated to producing the next generation of generals and officers.

Prior to the Summit Entertainment presentation in Hall H, IAR Managing Editor Jami Philbrick was on hand for a private press conference in which Harrison Ford discussed his role in the film, hitting theaters on November 1st.

Undoubtedly the most anticipated film showcased during DreamWorks Animation's big presentation today was How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Returning director Dean DeBlois was on hand to present two clips from next year's sequel to the adoring crowd.  He also dropped some casting knowledge, announcing that Cate Blanchett and Djimon Hounsou have joined the ensemble and revealing new info on the new character voiced by Kit Harington.

Brace yourselves for first look at the long-awaited Sentinels, as well as a host of mutant characters new and old.
