EXCLUSIVE: Actor Seamus Dever Talks 'Castle'

Finally there is a reason to love Mondays and that reason is ABC’s hit show Castle. With three very successful seasons under their belts, this show simply continues to get better with each passing episode. Monday January 9th is one very special episode, Till Death Do Us Part, which fans have been waiting for since last season because someone in this brilliantly cast ensemble is entering into wedded bliss.

Seamus Dever, who plays Detective Kevin Ryan, is tying the knot to his girlfriend, Jenny, who is played by his real-life wife, Juliana Dever. How such divine casting came to be is a story unto itself. Dever says of it, “Like everything in life, you meet people you work with and become friends.” Dever and his wife spent time with Creator/Executive Producer Andrew Marlowe, and his wife. It was through spending time together off of the set that they formed a comfortable bond. “We hung out socially and one night they decided to bring Juliana in for an audition.” Liking her acting abilities, when the time came in season two for Detective Ryan to get a girlfriend, Dever chimed in with the idea of bring his wife in for the role. “Someone on the show needed to have a stable relationship,” he adds laughing.

With the promise of an entertaining episode ahead, Dever tells me, “There is a lot of fun stuff in this one, a lot of fun behavior that I was able to work with.” He says that we will be seeing an edgier side of Detective Ryan as he and soon-to-be-wife, Jenny, decide to go on a master cleanse together before the big day. “The goal for them is to purify themselves before the wedding.” With this new edgier, and hungrier, Ryan for the other characters to play off of, fans can look forward to yet another round of mystery and laughs along the way to following the gang as they solve another murder. Dever adds, “It is very interesting the way that Jenny is weaved into the mystery and connected to the case in this episode.” He promises that fans will not be disappointed in the much anticipated, and expected, twists and turns on Monday’s episode.

Nathan Fillion (Rick Castle) and Stana Katic (NYPD Detective Kate Beckett) try to find their plus ones for the wedding while we all wait patiently for the two to admit to themselves, and everyone else already, that they are in love with one another. Meanwhile, Jon Huertas (NYPD Detective Javier Esposito) tries to one-up his ex who he finds out is bringing a date who just has to be a doctor of all things. All of this occurs as Ryan drives everyone around him completely nuts while on his cleanse. The answer to their prayers would be if he would cave in and eat a cheeseburger already. All do their best to taunt him into eating so things can go back to being copasetic. Rounding out the cast are Tamala Jones, Molly Quinn, Susan Sullivan and Penny Johnson Jerald.

An ensemble cast with such a unique chemistry, the fact of the matter is that this is a fun show to watch! So, how much fun do they have making it? “I knew going in that the secret of an ensemble cast was getting to know the people around you personally. We all know that you work better when you get along well with your co-workers.” Dever says that they all hang out with one another outside of work and are friends. “I think that’s the secret of the chemistry you see on the show.” Not necessarily one of those things that are always there right off the bat, he does feel that chemistry can be developed over time. “Actors are very aware of the need for good chemistry.” Of the very long hours that they work to put each episode together, he explains that when you are truly friends it’s easier to be able to let your guard down and as an actor that is imperative. “When there is trust on a set you are better able to let out your creative impulses because you know that there is no judgment. You are able to open up and play.” The reason this show is such a huge hit is because the audience can feel this energy emanate from their television screens. Castle you make Mondays the best day of the week!

Castle airs Monday nights at 10PM on ABC.
