Eastern Promises 2

We already knew that Viggo Mortensen and David Cronenberg like to work together. Now it seems that Vincent Cassel has become another cog in that movie making wheel.

The three worked together in A Dangerous Method, which explores the relationship between Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender) and Sigmund Freud (Mortensen) and also stars Keira Knightley. And before that, Cronenberg directed the two actors in the critically acclaimed Eastern Promises.

Could there be room for an Eastern Promises 2?

According to Cassel, who is currently promoting his French Gangster Biopic Mesrine, there is more to tell. "We talked very seriously about 'Eastern Promises 2' and it's going to be shot in Russia with Viggo and myself.”

While Eastern Promises clearly doesn’t need a sequel, Cronenberg has never been the kind of director to simply sell out. If there is a second story worth telling, there is a good chance that it will be a great addition to the original film.

Until then, you can look forward to Cassell as the notorious French gangster in Mesrine: Killer Instinct due August 27, and Mesrine: Public Enemy No. 1 due out September 10.
