For the better part of a decade, audiences around the world have vehemently demanded a movie following the illusionist exploits of GOB, the imbecilic cad from Arrested Development.  Since a GOB Bluth-based movie won't redefine the image of cinematic magicians for all time, though, we've got to put our hopes in Burt Wonderstone, a comedy centered on a successful Vegas magician who loses his professional partner and must rediscover his flare for the magical.  The production is currently on location in Las Vegas, and a fresh batch of unofficial photos from the set provide our first peek at Steve Carell looking quite different from The Office's Michael Scott as Wonderstone himself, along with a blonde-haired Steve Buscemi and Olivia Wilde sporting a pretty funny little outfit.

We normally don't spend a whole lot of time on television news around these parts, this being a movie news section and all, but last night saw the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards go down here in sunny Los Angeles, and we'd be remiss if we didn't share the full list of winners.  Glee's Jane Lynch hosted the ostentatious goings-on, which saw AMC's Mad Men winning the coveted Outstanding Drama Series trophy, while Modern Family won in the Comedy Series category.  Also worth noting, Peter Dinklage won a supporting actor award for his role as a man who always pays his debts on Game of Thrones, Melissa McCarthy took home a trophy on account of Mike & Molly, and Martin Scorsese naturally got some dramatic directorial kudos for helming the Boardwalk Empire pilot.

Now that Dunder Mifflin Regional Manager Michael Scott has departed NBC's The Office, your Steve Carell-fix will have to come from the former Daily Show correspondent's film appearances.  Burt Wonderstone, which would star Carell as the eponymous Las Vegas magician, has been seeking right director since talks with television veteran Charles McDougall ceased in early April.  According to Deadline, fellow TV director Don Scardino has signed on to make his feature directorial debut with Burt Wonderstone.

Remember The Ambiguously Gay Duo, the most popular recurring bit on TV Funhouse, an animated interlude on Saturday Night Live?  The Robert Smigel-written cartoon starred the voices of pre-hitting-it-huge Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell as Ace and Gary, two crimefighters who made the subtextual sexuality of spandex superheroes surprisingly explicit.  On the latest episode of SNL, TV Funhouse returned, bringing Ace and Gary with it.  This time, though, the duo ends up in live action, as played by Jon Hamm and Jimmy Fallon.  Carell and Colbert even show up in unexpected roles, along with Ed Helms.  Dally no longer.  Watch it now, friend of friends.

Will Ferrell is the current king of cinematic comedy, and as such, he stays very busy.  He's currently in the midst of a television run on NBC's The Office as Dunder Mifflin's interim Regional Manager Deangelo Vickers, and he's starring in the independent comedy drama Everything Must Go, along with Rebecca Hall, Stephen Root, and Glenn Howerton.  While discussing that film earlier today at a press conference, the erstwhile Ron Burgundy discussed his upcoming projects, offering clarification on the rumored sequels to Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Zoolander, and Step Brothers, as well as the political comedy Southern Rivals.

"Don't stop watching The Office, even though Steve Carell is leaving," NBC is saying to an audience with its collective eyebrow raised.  Not content with pleading, "Please, please stick with it through the end of the season," which will have several episodes after Carell's character Michael Scott leaves the Dunder Mifflin office, the network is relying on a cadre of guest stars as an insurance policy.  Will Ferrell has already begun his temporary stint as Regional Manager Deangelo Vickers, and now, Entertainment Weekly reports that Jim Carrey will interview for a management position during the season finale.

At the end of February, the comedy project Burt Wonderstone starring Steve Carell found a director in Charles McDougall.  The television veteran, who worked with Carell no less than five times on The Office, began negotiations with New Line to make his feature debut on the story of dueling Las Vegas magicians.  Now, Firstshowing reports that talks between McDougall and the studio have ceased, meaning New Line will have to find a new director in order to ensure that Burt Wonderstone will fit into Carell's busy, post-The Office schedule.

With his impending departure from NBC's The Office, movies are about to become the sole outlet for up-to-date Steve Carell in the pop culture marketplace.  Without a popular network sitcom to fall back on, Carell's going to have to deliver in his cinematic offerings.  In Crazy, Stupid, Love., he has insurance in the form of an impressive cast, including past Oscar nominees Julianne Moore and Ryan Gosling, as Carell's estranged wife and ladies' man mentor, respectively.  Also on board are Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon.  Check out the new trailer (also available in HD at Apple) right here.

Dinner for Schmucks is the hilarious tale of discovering the good in somebody no matter how hard it is to find. Steve Carell stars, alongside Paul Rudd, with an incredibly versatile cast to back them up. This talented group includes Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, Lucy Punch and many more.

Director Jay Roach (The Austin Powers Franchise, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers) injects a lot of heart to this remake of the 1998 French film Le diner de cons. Jay knows comedy and he understands that tragedy and heartbreak can benefit from humor. He does this especially well in Schmucks, thanks to Carell’s wonderfully insane character.
