A little over a decade ago, Seth Rogen was a seventeen year old supporting player on the short-lived by consistently excellent series Freaks and Geeks.  After that show's cancellation, executive producer Judd Apatow enlisted him as a writer and actor on Undeclared, which met the same fate after one season, then the two struck gold with The 40 Year Old Virgin and Rogen became an improbably leading man with Knocked Up.  Now, he's a ubiquitous comedic presence, and a new supercut video displays his fondness for pop-culture references both scripted and unscripted.

When possible, a supercut is a fun-size treat to offer on Friday, and this one is particularly enjoyable.  It contains choice cuts from Freaks and Geeks, Superbad, Knocked Up, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Funny People, The Green Hornet, Undeclared, and more.  He drops allusions to Simon & Garfunkle, Back the Future, James Gandolfini, Jude Law, James McAvoy, Jon Favreau, CSI, Liar Liar, Tupac, The Shining, Paris Hilton, and my personal favorite, David Caruso in Jade.

Super Bowl weekend always seems to put a damper on the box-office, and this year was no exception making it the smallest box-office total gross in 15 years. Since this also happens to be the 13th straight weekend that ticket sales sank below last year's numbers, it is a little worrisome to say the least.

We certainly seem to love Natalie Portman. Her latest romcom entitled No Strings Attached opened at the #1 spot this weekend with $20 million in grosses. The romantic comedy also stars Ashton Kutcher and a handful of talented actors (including Kevin Kline, Greta Gerwig and Lake Bell) exploring the notion of a “sex friend” relationship.

The Green Hornet easily flew into the top spot this weekend at the box office. The superhero action/comedy opened with a strong $34 million in its first three days, making it the 3rd highest January opening of all-time! While the film earned mixed reviews, it is clear that audiences were in the mood for this unique take on the genre.

Ron Howard’s latest, The Dilemma also opened to a pretty decent $17 million. The Vince Vaughn/Kevin James comedy didn’t excite critics, but it earned enough audience attention to open in 2nd place.

The Green Hornet opened on Friday, and while we usually write full reviews here at iamROGUE, we wanted to try something a little different. After all, this flick is an unusual little concoction. While Hornet may not offer the deep, dark complexities of The Dark Knight, or even the impressive wit of Iron Man, it is certainly infectiously fun.

Check out our video review of the latest feature directed by Michel Gondry and written by Superbad scribes, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The segment was recorded while driving around in the actual Black Beauty (the famous Green Hornet vehicle).

Michel Gondry is an impossibly brilliant man. His movies, his music videos and just the sense of style he brings to his projects is truly fantastic. From his achingly beautiful Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind to his more recent Be Kind Rewind, his films offer a unique vision.

It was sort of a shock to hear that he would be directing The Green Hornet, especially with a script by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. This odd mix however ended up being an extremely entertaining film that doesn’t shy away from a little violence. It is funny, charming, and it has those moments where you can tell Gondry was behind the camera.

Thursday, 13 January 2011 10:55

Who wouldn’t want to be a superhero for a day? With Seth Rogen’s everyman hero role in The Green Hornet, there is sure to be conversation about that very subject. Of course this has IAR thinking about superhero movies and which ones really rocked our world.

While nobody will be surprised by our number one pick, you might be more surprised by a couple that just didn’t make the top five (Iron Man, Hellboy). So feel free to share your favorite cinematic superhero in the comment section below.

I’ve been a fan of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for a while now. Their sometimes vulgar, but always touching, humor is what makes their comedies work as well as they do. I found it hard to imagine this pair taking on a superhero movie; yet here we are with The Green Hornet.

iamROGUE.com had the chance to talk with Evan about writing the script, smashing toys and the possibility of a sequel for Hornet. It is always an absolute pleasure to chat with this very talented and funny gentleman, and once again, Rogen and Goldberg managed to bring a smile to my face with the very entertaining Green Hornet.

True Grit finally did it. In its third week of release, The Coen Brothers's highest grossing film to date managed to bump Little Fockers from the number one spot. With the addition of this week's $15 million at the box office, the western's total haul so far is an impressive $110 million. Fockers, however, came in a close second with nearly $13.8 million for the weekend.

As far as new releases go, Nicolas Cage’s latest, Season of the Witch, debuted in the #3 spot with a respectable $10.8 million. Country Strong, featuring Gwyneth Paltrow as a has been country star, expanded into wide release and found itself in the #6 spot, earning $7.3 million.

Riding into theatres this coming Friday, January 14, is the highly anticipated The Green Hornet. Written by Superbad scribes Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the film features Rogan in the lead role of Britt Reid, aka “The Green Hornet”.

Just a few hours ago, iamROGUE.com sat with the very funny and talented Goldberg who was out promoting this unique take on a superhero flick. When asked about a sequel, he was revved up to go. Of course it all depends on the box office that the Hornet can take in.
