True Grit finally did it. In its third week of release, The Coen Brothers's highest grossing film to date managed to bump Little Fockers from the number one spot. With the addition of this week's $15 million at the box office, the western's total haul so far is an impressive $110 million. Fockers, however, came in a close second with nearly $13.8 million for the weekend.

As far as new releases go, Nicolas Cage’s latest, Season of the Witch, debuted in the #3 spot with a respectable $10.8 million. Country Strong, featuring Gwyneth Paltrow as a has been country star, expanded into wide release and found itself in the #6 spot, earning $7.3 million.

Maybe it’s just my love for Gwyneth Paltrow, but she sounded sweet as a fresh baked apple pie on last night’s CMA Awards. She was ably backed by country singer Vince Gill on harmonies for her live-singing country debut.

“Country Strong” was the track she performed, and it is also the title of her upcoming feature about a fallen country singer. And judging from her performance last night, and the standing ovation she received, she fits very nicely into an old pair of cowboy boots.

Synopsis: Soon after a rising young singer-songwriter (Garrett Hedlund) gets involved with a fallen, emotionally unstable country star (Gwyneth Paltrow), the pair embarks on a career resurrection tour helmed by her husband/manager (Tim McGraw) and featuring a beauty-queen-turned-singer (Leighton Meester). Between concerts, romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all.

Grab your earplugs and wrap your glass valuables in plastic bubble paper! Oscar-winning actress (and wife of Coldplay's Chris Martin) Gwyneth Paltrow will sing the title track of her new film, Country Strong, at next month's CMAs in Nashville. Gill will accompany Paltrow on the song.

It’s not necessarily my type of film, but with Gwyneth Paltrow on board, it’s likely to be a quality piece of work. What might be most impressive is the vocal abilities of Paltrow, as she embraces vocal duties like a true champ.
