Opening in theaters on January 13th is the new post-apocalyptic science-fiction thriller from French director Xavier Gens (Hitman) called The Divide. The film's cast features an excellent ensemble of veteran actors including Michael Biehn (The Terminator, Aliens), Milo Ventimiglia (TV's Heroes, Rocky Balboa), Peter Stormare (Fargo, Constantine), Rosanna Arquette (Silverado, Pulp Fiction), and Courtney B. Vance (Final Destination 5, The Hunt for Red October). 

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had a chance to sit down with actor Michael Biehn to talk about his work on The Divide. Biehn discussed the new film, working with director Xavier Gens, writing his own dialogue, creating his unique character, the uncomfortable on-set environment, and the actors actual hatred towards each other. 

It’s my birthday; I’m sitting in the bedroom I grew up in at my parent’s house in Massachusetts … and I’m waiting for Ron Perlman to call me. Does life get any better than this?

Last week while I was home visiting my family, I had the pleasure of spending the evening of my 36^th birthday speaking with one of my all-time favorite actors. I first became aware of Ron Perlman’s immense talent as a performer from his work on the popular ‘80s fantasy series Beauty and the Beast, but it’s his impressive and vast resume of film accomplishments that has made me a fan. I loved his unique portrayal of characters in movies like The City of Lost Children, Alien Resurrection, and Star Trek Nemesis, but it is his collaborations with lifelong friend Guillermo del Toro (Cronos, Blade II, Hellboy, and Hellboy II: The Golden Army) that I think marks some of his finest work.

But recently it seems like Perlman’s career could not be hotter. For the past three seasons he’s starred as Clay Morrow on FX’s hit motorcycle gang series Sons of Anarchy, which just began airing its forth season. He is also currently getting rave reviews for his role as a crime boss in director Nicholas Winding Refn’s critically acclaimed movie Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. Not to mention that he was seen this past summer playing the father of Conan the Barbarian in Lionsgate’s big screen adaptation of Robert E. Howard’s beloved character. Now the actor once again plays a crime boss in the new film Bunraku, which opens in theaters on September 30^th.

Opening in theaters on October 7th is the new science fiction film from Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy entitled Real Steel. The film stars Hugh Jackman (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) in the leading role and also features performances from Dakota Goyo (Thor), Evangeline Lilly (Lost), Kevin Durand (Robin Hood), Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker), and Hope Davis (Charlie Bartlett).

IAR's managing editor Jami Philbrick had an opportunity to attend the unveiling of Virgin America's Real Steel Aircraft at LAX this morning, as the company makes a cameo appearance in the futuristic film as the "Official Airline of World Robot Boxing." On hand for the event was actor Hugh Jackman, who spoke briefly to IAR about the new movie, training for the boxing scenes with sports legend Sugar Ray Leonard, and the film's mind-blowing special effects.

At the relatively young age of thirty-three, actor Josh Hartnett has already established an extremely impressive resume of film work appearing in such popular movies as The Virgin Suicides, Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, Sin City, The Black Dahlia, and 30 Days of Night. The young actor has been fortunate enough to collaborate with some of the best directors in the industry such as Ridley Scott, Brian De Palma, Robert Rodriguez, Sophia Coppola, and Michael Bay. He’s also shared the screen with several of the most beloved actors around including Harrison Ford, Morgan Freeman, Alec Baldwin, Bruce Willis, and Ewan McGregor. Now Hartnett returns to the screen in a new movie that features an equally incredible ensemble of actors called Bunraku, which is available today on VOD and is scheduled to be release in theaters on September 30^th.

In the film, which combines elements of both the Samurai and Western genres, Hartnett plays the Drifter, a mysterious unnamed man on a mission of revenge against a crime boss named Nicola (Ron Perlman). Also in pursuit of Nicola is a samurai named Yoshi (Japanese musician Gackt), and together the two warriors unite to take down the crime boss and recover a family heirloom that he stole from Yoshi’s clan. In addition to Hartnett, Gackt, and Perlman (Drive), the film boasts an impressive cast of actors that includes Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), Kevin McKidd (Grey’s Anatomy), and Demi Moore (A Few Good Men).

We here at iamROGUE.com are really excited about the release of Skyline. Whether it is the groovy trailer or the scary premise, it looks like an awesome popcorn flick. And since we are talking science fiction, one of the things that make the genre great is the sometimes fascinating characters that are created. From Star Wars to The Road Warrior, there have been a number of brilliant creations who have helped make their world feel real.

We talked about some cool sci-fi folks in part one, but this time we get down to the nitty gritty. These guys and gals are absolutely legendary. From ass-kicking chicks like Ripley and Sarah Connor to a couple of greats from a galaxy far, far away, here are our top 5 sci-fi characters of all time.

John Wyndham’s novel "The Day of the Triffids", which made it’s way to film on three separate occasions (the first being the 1963 cult classic Steve Sekely helmed adaptation which is now often found under the title Invasion of the Triffids, and twice as the source title for British television) in the past, will head to the big screen in 3D, reports Fangoria.com per Variety.

Doug Liman has committed to direct the Warner Bros. sci-fi project All You Need Is Kill, reports Variety. This solidifies a report from back in June that hinted Liman was circling the ambitious project; now it would seem as though the Mr. And Mrs. Smith director has finally signed on the dotted line. Variety doesn't offer many details other than that Liman has officially moved from the WB version of The Three Musketeers (which is competing with Paul WS Anderson's adaptation of the same material) to All You Need is Kill.  Dante Harper adapted Hiroshi Sakurazaka's novel, and there's no mention of a rewrite.  

The new teaser trailer for Gareth Edwards' low-budget wonder Monsters has just premiered at Apple.com, and it's definitely worth a look, so peep it below. Monsters, in case you're unfamiliar, was shot by newbie director Edwards for peanuts; the sci-fi movie utilized a two-man crew and a store-bought digital camera, while boasting realistic yet homemade special effects. Apparently, it cost somewhere in the neighborhood of under $10,000 to make. (And if you're thinking it's just another Paranormal Activity, check out the trailer to find out you're way off.) The flick, which has understandably drawn comparisons to District 9 (in terms of story), premiered to rave reviews at this year's South By Southwest Film Festival and has steadily gathered excited buzz ever since.

Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity might be spurring the hottest catfight known to man; Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively are both vying for the female lead in the director's sci-fi thriller, reports the Heat Vision Blog, which undoubtedly creates all sorts of naughty visions in the heads of fanboys.

On 11/12/2010 audiences will get the chance to find themselves at the Skyline. The Strause Brothers latest journey into science fiction features something that is pretty darn terrifying, a mass alien abduction, but certainly not the kind we are used to seeing out of Hollywood.

Stephen Hawking’s warned us about the arrival of alien beings, the latest teaser trailer for the film explains. Meanwhile, massive blue lights come crashing down into homes and businesses as it leaves only rubble and smoke filling up the sky.
