11 Days To 'Skyline': Top SciFi Characters (Pt.1)

The countdown to the premiere of Skyline has begun and in honor of the upcoming sci-fi thriller, we would like to look at some of the MOST brilliant characters in Part 1 or our Top 10 Sci-Fi Characters.

10. Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen

Billy Crudup played this powerful, God-like superhero in this terribly underrated Zack Snyder flick  Manhattan is beyond brilliant and slightly contemptible. All that power can really go to somebody’s head. Yet this strange creation, with a whole lot of CGI, is a fantastic idea. Too bad we don’t have anybody like this in real life to solve the world’s problems, if we do though, hopefully he’ll wear pants.

9. Doc Brown from Back to the Future Trilogy

It is hard to think “Mad Scientist” without thinking of Christopher Lloyd’s zany inspired performance of Doc Brown. The shocking white hair and the over-the-top shenanigans made this “Doc” one of the most entertainingly cool characters ever put to screen. To be fair, I have to give credit to Michael J. Fox, because he and Lloyd have such terrific chemistry. It was hard to try and pick just one for this list. Would you have gone with Marty?

8. Hal 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey

This is truly one of the most strange and sometimes terrifying sci-fi creations. Since 2001, nearly everybody and their droid have a computer based character. Hal however, is one of the main dudes, and he has one of the best scenes ever put to film… you know which one I’m talking about! Considering he is only a computer, he still has some of the best bit so of dialogue in the entire script.

7. Roy Batty from Blade Runner

It is no surprise that Rutger Hauer is a great villain. All you need to do is watch this guy in action with either The Hitcher, or the classic Ridley Scott feature, Blade Runner. Hauer’s Batty is quite literally “Batty”, yet you truly feel sympathy for this android who really wants to "live". He is sort of like Pinocchio, yet without the charming Disney tunes. A brilliant performance for an amazing movie!

6. Mad Max from the Mad Max Trilogy

Back when Mel Gibson was Mad Max, he was pretty awesome. Max starts his journey as a man looking for revenge, and throughout the series, he ends up a hero for many. This was one Aussie flick that translated quite well to the US. In fact, this is part of the reason Mel became a star in the first place. So when you hear all these stories of Gibson going crazy on the phone or making racial slurs, sometimes it’s good to go back and remember him for the guy he used to be. My personal favorite of the three films happens to be The Road Warrior.

Are you ready for Part 2? Who would you pick for one of the best Sci Fi Characters?
