There are very few characters as iconic of Captain Kirk. William Shatner added the essence of geeky cool to his Kirk. He was over-the-top and ultra serious, but good ole’ Bill knew exactly what he was doing and he is now legendary. While Chris Pine added an extra dimension to the man in J.J. Abrams version, we will never forget the original!

4. Sarah Connor from Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Linda Hamilton first appeared as the weak and helpless Sarah Connor when Arnold Schwarzenegger first came ‘a calling. When it was time for the sequel, Sarah had become a fighting machine. Suddenly, Sarah was a strong and loving mother, a powerful soldier and one of the most impressive characters in science fiction history. She gives an utterly fantastic performance in what is arguably the best film of the franchise.

3. Han Solo from Star Wars
What guy didn’t want to be Han Solo in Star Wars? What girl didn’t want to be with him? Harrison Ford thrilled us as Han Solo in the universe George Lucas created. Whether he was killing some alien gangster, or putting the moves on Princess Leia, Harrison owned this role. It’s hard not to be blown away by the man that was not only this iconic character, but he was Indiana Jones as well! No wonder everybody loves Mr. Ford!

2. Ellen Ripley from The Alien Franchise
There is not much more to say aside from Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley is easily one of the most important characters in science fiction lore. And yes, that includes the better than AVP, Alien Resurrection. Always stunning and always tough as nails, Ripley had to battle these beasties and carry the emotional range Ripley struggled with. She gave her all in each one of the four movies. Although the first two are easily the best. You know what AVP was missing? One of the most inspired and talented actresses ever to step into this genre.

1. Darth Vader from Star Wars
The coolest and the baddest of all super villains happens to be the man in black. That voice, that power and that cape! Will anybody ever forget the first time they heard, “Luke, I am your father!”? Hell no! While he isn’t the scariest bad guy ever, and he probably won’t give you nightmares, he doesn’t need to. He is one of the key reasons why Star Wars is perhaps the most important franchise in science fiction history.
