2 Days to 'Skyline': Top 10 Monstrous SCIFI Monsters (Pt. 1)

You want to see something really scary?

Since we’ve been talking a whole lot of Sci-Fi thanks to The Brothers Strause latest Skyline, we’ve been thinking monsters! And since the monsters there look massively intense, it seems like a good time to revisit a few classic beasties!

The science fiction genre has presented a number of terrifying aliens, including those murderous monsters in Skyline. So iamROGUE.com has put together a list of some of the scariest in the SCIFI universe. We found a number of drooling, oozing, murdering creations that you can only hope never find their way to earth.

What are you going to see this Friday at your local Multiplex? Skyline anyone!

10. Worm Monster – Galaxy of Terror (1981)

Galaxy of Terror may be a silly Roger Corman produced rip-off of Alien, but it sure has some ghoulish kills. The most memorable is when the lovely Taaffe O'Connell conjures up a gigantic worm from her fears that proceeds to suck off all her clothes and rape and kill her. Ironically enough, this scene was deemed too sexually explicit upon its release thanks to Taaffe’s orgasmic screams and moans. While this particular film is a bit goofy, this scene is pretty chilling.

9. Creepy Blonde Children – Village of the Damned (1960 and 1995)

This Sixties classic (and the John Carpenter remake) featured a bunch of blonde children who force adults to kill themselves with the power of telekinesis. There is something truly spooky about a child terrorizing somebody, it worked in Orphan and of course, The Omen and The Exorcist and it works here. Even though Carpenter’s version isn’t quite a strong as the remake, these damned kids will scare the hell out of you.

8. Brundlefly – The Fly (1986)

While Brundlefly (Jeff Goldblum) wasn’t harming too many folks, he sure frightened audiences worldwide. David Cronenberg’s remake of the 1958 classic took on a life of its own. This is a near perfect remake with a wonderfully talented cast which also included Geena Davis and John Getz. And of course, this “Brundlefly” creation was the stuff nightmares are made of. The scariest bits include the early transformation where fingernails begin falling off and icky hairs start growing from his body.

7. Pod People – Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

Another remake… oh my! Yet again, Philip Kaufman (much like Cronenberg’s Fly) advanced this story of aliens taking over in a smart and sinister way. If you fall asleep and happen to wake up with one of these vile covered replicas, there is no doubt you’ll be beyond alarmed. What’s even scarier is when they wake up and completely take over. The final scene with Donald Sutherland will get under your skin for days… or you’ll want to mimic it when you see an old friend!

6. Predators – Predator (1987)

These monsters are powerful, smart and absolutely dangerous. They take alien abduction to a whole new level because they hunt and then they kill. It might be said that being put on an operating table and experimented on is probably more fear-provoking, but being hunted down is plenty scary. If these guys can mess with Arnold Schwarzenegger and his buddies, it’s not surprising that they could really mess up regular folk!

This is Part 1 of the Most Monstrous SCIFI Monsters… what are your picks for the top frightmakers?
