5. Cowboys & Aliens
While not traditionally a fan of far out film concepts, Cowboys & Aliens looks to take the term "extreme" and stretch it quite a bit. Jon Favreau somehow manages to blend the Wild West with extraterrestrial insanity, and every second of it looks ridiculously cool. Toss Harrison Ford in the mix and you've got yourself one wicked trailer.
4. 127 Hours
From the way it is shot (so fresh feeling) and the way it sets up the story (takes you right up until the breaking point), I am in.
3. Friends With Benefits
Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake can do nothing wrong. Both coming off phenomenal films (Black Swan and The Social Network, respectively), this pairing is extremely appealing. The trailer is absolutely hilarious, especially since Timberlake’s rendition of Semisonic’s “Closing Time” plays over most of the action.
2. Battle: Los Angeles
Icelandic artist Johann Johannsson’s "The Sun’s Gone Dim and The Sky’s Turned Black" plays over the alien invasion, with beautiful effect. No matter how the movie itself turns out, this trailer is one of the best produced pieces of art in years.
1. Hanna
Joe Wright has lately focused on romantic drama with acclaimed films Pride and Prejudice and Atonement. His upcoming Hanna, an action-thriller, is a complete departure from his typical genre of choice, but it looks better than anything he has ever done. The trailer is well-constructed and extremely suspenseful, which only increases my anticipation for its opening weekend.
What was the best trailer you saw this year?
