5. Emma Watson – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
Much like her co-star Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson keeps getting better and better in the Harry Potter franchise. With the biggest yet to come in the series, it will be exciting to see where her career takes her. She will next be appearing (besides Deathly Hallows Part 2) in My Week with Marilyn opposite Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe. Ms. Watson will add that special touch of sweetness, vulnerability and kick ass that she does so well. She has become a fantastic actor thanks to her work as Hermione.

4. Carey Mulligan – Never Let Me Go
Carey Mulligan was perfect in An Education. She was even able to bring life to the misguided Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. And in Never Let Me Go, she again gives a wonderful performance. She somehow feels unique compared to many young actors with her utterly charming delivery and her wide-eyed innocence that manages to seem wiser than you’d expect. It will be terrific to see how she works with a director like Nicolas Winding Refn in his latest feature, Drive.

3. Olivia Wilde – Tron: Legacy
Olivia Wilde not only had a cute hair-cut in Tron: Legacy, she gives an incredibly charming performance. She makes you believe in her purity and her fierceness when necessary. Yet Olivia has clearly been a talent to be reckoned with thanks to her work on the series “House.” And now, she is settling in to movie stardom thank you very much. Let’s see how bright her star shines when she appears in Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens.

2. Rooney Mara – The Social Network
Rooney Mara suffered a lot of backlash thanks to the critical reaction to A Nightmare on Elm Street. Yet she showed everyone that the problematic remake had nothing to do with her. With her incredible work in The Social Network she made a huge impression on Hollywood. David Fincher took notice, and cast her in the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander in the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The punk rock role of Lisbeth is likely to push the talented Ms. Mara into a whole other stratosphere.

1. Natalie Portman – Black Swan
After this week, with all the news that has been generated regarding Natalie Portman, it’s no real surprise that she tops this list. In fact, she was one of the reasons it actually happened. While Ms. Portman has always been good, her choice to do Black Swan was one of those performances that people will never forget. And next year she is doing an array of different roles including Your Highness, No Strings Attached and Thor. Add a possible Academy Award for her work in Swan and it looks as though 2011 may be a good year for the actress.
