Rogue 5: Best Night Ever Movies

Every angel-headed hipster heading out for a Friday or Saturday night of reveling knows that the night holds untold potential.  At the outset, every night could be the most memorable and adventurous night you've ever had.  With the Eighties party-picture Take Me Home Tonight on the cusp theatrical release, we here at IAR thought we'd share our 5 favorite movies that party hard and take place over the course of a single night.

5. Superbad

Michael Cera and Jonah Hill are inseparable best friends bound for different colleges who get into all manner of trouble when they promise to obtain alcohol for an underage rager.  Seth Rogan and Bill Hader show up as irrepressible cops, taking Christopher Mintz-Plasse's unforgettably nerdy McLovin out on the town.

4. American Graffiti

Before he depicted intergalactic civil war in a galaxy far, far away, George Lucas directed this tale set a long time ago, in 1962.  It's a loving ode to car culture, with Ron Howard and Richard Dreyfuss as another set of buddies destined to go to different colleges.  Also, Harrison Ford basically plays the earthbound, townie version of Han Solo.

3. Take Me Home Tonight

Co-writer, producer, and star Topher Grace plays a languishing young man who has greatness thrust upon him over the course of one night.  This movie encapsulates the tropes of the single-night adventure, including fast cars, lawbreaking, drug-use, party music, sexiness, and fisticuffs.  If your dad was Michael Biehn, you'd act out too. Oh, and there is even a BEST. NIGHT. EVER. app - check it out!

2. Die Hard

Bruce Willis' John McClane showed up for a party, and instead became the barefooted fly in the ointment – or the monkey in the wrench, if you prefer – for criminal mastermind Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman).  On top of saving dozens of innocent lives, killing a bunch of bad dudes, and causing an unprecedented amount of property damage, McClane manages to reunite with his estranged wife, all while helping Reginald VelJohnson get his groove back.

1. Dazed and Confused

Like most of the other films on this list, this one centers around a group of high schoolers partying their brains out at the end of a school year.  The year in question is 1976, in small town Texas, and their are an almost overwhelming number of characters and subplots at work here, including Ben Affleck as an ass-slapping imbecile, Matthew McConaughy as a perpetually blazed and scamming older guy, and Wiley Wiggins as an incoming freshman getting his first taste of adolescent partying.

Honorable Mention: Can't Hardly Wait

"That is a Fragrance of Love scented candle, bitch."  With dialogue so crisp, it had to make it on the list somehow.

While these are some movies for which we have an affinity, we're an open-minded organization, and we want to hear from you.

What are some of your favorite movies that take place over one night?  Go ahead and share them in the comments.
