Ride Along certainly has a comedy pedigree. The combination of Cube's laconic, intimidating cool and Hart's flailing hysteria has immediate potential. And the movie is from Tim Story, the Fantastic Four and Barbershop director hot off Think Like a Man. One of four credited writers here is Jason Mantzoukas, the unstoppably funny comedian who plays Rafi on The League.
The concept has the kind of simple set-up that ought to produce a thoroughly funny hour-and-a-half at the movies. Hart plays Ben, a high school security guard with law enforcement aspirations and a girlfriend he loves deeply. In order to secure her hand in marriage, Ben will have to prove to her no-nonsense brother that he's worthy of her. That means a ride along with Cube as James, the most hardcore cop in Atlanta who isn't keen on Ben marrying his sister.
Run your peepers across the Ride Along poster, which admirably conveys the basics of the story and the central relationship at just a glance.
And now for four stills featuring Cube, Hart, Tika Sumpter, John Leguizamo, and Bryan Callen.
And some peeks behind the scenes featuring the stars and Story himself.
Ride Along is scheduled to hit theaters on January 17, 2014.
