Mekhi Phifer & Maggie Q on New 'Divergent' Character Posters

A pair of posters promoting next year's Divergent adaptation put supporting characters played by Mekhi Phifer and Maggie Q under the spotlight.

Admittedly, it's moody spotlight that casts shadows more than anything, but still, we've got two new looks at Max and Tori.

Both characters are members of the Dauntless class.  In the dystopian future of the Young Adult novel series by Veronica Roth, society is organized into five rigid castes.  At the age of sixteen, every young citizen must decide which faction they'll devote their lives to: Abnegation, who value selflessness; Dauntless, who cultivate bravery; Erudite, who are all about intellect; Amity, who mellow out in peace; Abnegation, who prize selflessness; and Candor, who are always honest.

Shailene Woodley stars as Tris, a young woman whose aptitude test reveals that she's Divergent, with no predilection towards any one group.  As she endures the brutal initiation into Dauntless, Tris must also attempt to unravel the mystery of divergence and just why it is such a threat to the system.

Phifer's Max is an influential Dauntless leader who is responsible for the competitive initiation practices.  Q's Tori Wu, meanwhile, is a former Erudite who becomes a friend and ally to Tris on her journey, which Summit Entertainment is hoping will be chronicled in sequels Insurgent and Allegiant.

The Max poster is here thanks to IGN.

These character posters are very much in the style of two posters revealed in September, showing Woodley as Tris and Theo James as Four, her mentor and presumed love interest.  Check those out by following this link.

Limitless and The Illusionist helmer Neil Burger is directing this adaptation, the latest effort to replicate the phenomenal success of The Hunger Games.

Burger put together a pretty impressive cast to portray the story's sprawling ensemble of characters.  There's Woodley and James, along with Phifer, Q, and the likes of Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, Zoe Kravitz, Jai Courtney, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Christian Madsen, Ray Stevenson, Tony Goldwyn, Ansel Elgort, and Miles Teller, so good opposite Woodley in The Spectacular Now.

Divergent diverges in theaters nationwide on March 21, 2014.
