Attention RL Stine Fans! Enter to Win Scarifying 'Goosebumps' Prizes

If you tore through Goosebumps paperbacks with literary abandon as a young reader, then Sony Rewards is cooking up an especially spooky treat just for you.

Did you know there's a movie based on the bestselling bite-sized horror tales by R.L. Stine?

It's true, Goosebumps is finally coming to the silver screen next year.  In order to whip tried-and-true fans into a frenzy, Sony's launching an interactive contest that combines the best of social media, trivia, memes, and fan art for competitive shenanigans that will rewards the biggest 'Bumps fans with unique prizes.

Head over to the official site to enter the Goosebumps Fan Contest and bone up on the rules.

Once you've registered, you'll get email dispatches with Stine-ian content.  More importantly, these emails will let you know how to earn points by completing specific challenges and sharing the results on social media.

Successfully doing so will put you on the leaderboard.  Building a solid score between now and the movie's release keeps you in the running for sweet, sweet prizes.

The First Place Prize in the current competition is a video call with Stine himself, from whose phantasmagoric imagination the whole Goosebumps universe sprang.  The Second Place Prize is a complete collection of the entire book series.

Prizes for future phases in the contest include memorabilia, props, a creature makeover, and a video chat with Jack Black, who stars in the movie as none other than R.L. Stine.

He plays a fictionalized version of the author, a version that has only the vaguest resemblance to the actual Stine.

See, Goosebumps doesn't adapt a particular novel.  Instead, it peppers in elements of a whole lot of novels using a comedic adventure as a backdrop for all manner of terrifying encounters.

The story follows Zach (Dylan Minette, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day), a New York teenager who moves to a small town where he promptly develops a crush on his neighbor, Hannah (Odeya Rush, The Giver).  Turns out her father is, in fact, Stine, a reclusive novelist and prisoner of his own imagination.  With an assist from the evil ventriloquist dummy Slappy, Zack inadvertently lets Stine's creations leap from manuscript pages into real life.  As they run amok, Zack must team with Hannah and Stine to save their town.

IAR talked to director Rob Letterman (Gulliver's Travels) about the unusual adaptation in an exclusive video interview at Comic-Con.

Goosebumps opens in theaters on August 7, 2015.  That leaves plenty of time to head over to the official Goosebumps fan contest site and start playing to win spooktacular prizes.
