'Wonder Woman' Gets a Screenwriter with a Y Chromosome

Wonder Woman has long had a star to play the Amazonian heartbreaker.

Last week the movie signed one a hell of a director in Michelle MacLaren, ensuring that the first big superhero movie starring a female superhero also has a female director.

Now the project is picking up a screenwriter, and he's a dude.

Specifically, he's Jason Fuchs.  An actor and writer, Fuchs has shown up in film, TV, and even as a voice in Rockstar games like Red Dead Redemption and Bully.  As a screenwriter, he co-wrote the 2012 animated sequel Ice Age: Continental Drift

More pertinent to this big event movie, Fuchs is the sole credited writer on Pan, next summer's Peter Pan prequel starring Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara.

Apparently Warner Bros. is happy with his work on Pan, because he's already working on a Neverland-set sequel.  And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Fuchs is in negotiations to write Wonder Woman.

When MacLaren joined the project, we heard that the Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones helmer will be developing the Wonder Woman story.  Assuming his negotiations bear fruit, Fuchs will work closely with MacLaren on the script.

Exactly what the story consists of is a mystery, but a recent rumor asserted that Wonder Woman takes place largely on Paradise Island.  About halfway through in this rumored version, Diana of Themyscira leaves the Amazonian island to explore the world of men, at which it's revealed that Wonder Woman takes place in the 1920s, allowing Diana to witness in the women's suffrage movement.

A sequel would then move the action to WWII and a third entry would finally bring Diana into the modern day.

Of course, audiences will meet Wonder Woman in a contemporary setting.  She's a big part of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which introduces Gal Gadot as Diana in March 2016.  Then she'll participate in WB's Justice League movies.

Stay tuned for more on Wonder Woman, scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on June 23, 2017.
