Huzzah! 'John Wick' Sequel Is On the Way

People keep asking if John Wick is coming back and we haven't really had an answer, but yeah, we're thinking he's going to be back.

The co-directors of John Wick have revealed that they are indeed cooking up a sequel to last year's headshot extravaganza.

If you enjoy action movies and have yet to see John Wick, do yourself a favor and check it out immediately.

The movie follows a legendary hitman as he emerges from retirement to demolish the punks who killed his puppy—the puppy his dead wife gave him.  It doesn't reinvent any action wheels, but instead revels in the tropes of badass revenge cinema, presenting one slick, precisely choreographed bit of joyously destructive mayhem after another and allowing Keanu Reeves to do what he does best.

It's the sort of movie that leaves you wanting more, imagining all the adventures Wick could have down the line.  Apparently co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch (only Stahelski is officially credited, but they directed together) are eager to give audiences just what they want: more Wick.

“We’re in development right now,” Stahelski told today.

There's no guarantee Reeves would return, but Stahelski said, “If we could work with Keanu Reeves for 10 movies you’d have a really cool career.”

“We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original,” he continued. “It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it’s Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome.”

“You gotta go on a journey with the guy and have to like the guy,” added Leitch.

If John Wick 2 is destined to happen, and we are fervently praying to Y'Golonac that it is, the sequel might have to wait a while.  Leitch and Stahelski are in talks with Universal to direct Cowboy Ninja Viking, a comic book adaptation to which Chris Pratt is attached as the titular cowboy/ninja/viking.

One of the many actors we'd hope to see return for John Wick 2 is Lance Reddick, who played the proprietor of the Continental Hotel, New York's hottest spot for professional murderers.  IAR Managing Editor Jami Philbrick just talked to Reddick in an exclusive interview regarding the Blu-ray release of John Wick.

To discover the unusual inspiration for Reddick's take on the character, check out the interview.
