‘Pacific Rim’ The New ‘Godzilla’: Guillermo del Toro On Board?

Back in May it was revealed that Legendary Pictures bought Pacific Rim, a spec treatment from writer Travis Beacham. It now looks as though Pacific Rim may in fact be reworked to fuel a new Godzilla feature.

How about another dose of good news? Guillermo del Toro may be the man to make the film.

According to Latino Review the initial Godzilla spec wasn’t exactly what Legendary Pictures sought, so they turned to Beacham’s Pacific Rim script, to be reworked as the raw material for the upcoming Godzilla reboot.

The Pacific Rim plot takes place in a future overrun by malevolent creatures who threaten earth; the planet’s only hope is to use highly advanced technology to eradicate the threat. It’s easy to see how the script could be manipulated to invite the great green monster.

The Latino Review points out that the ’Pacific Rim-to-Godzilla’ idea is still just that, an idea. Nothing is set in stone at this point, but I like the idea of tweaking a script that sounds pretty run-of-the-mill in favor of a fresh Guillermo del Toro Godzilla flick!
