'Tomorrowland' Poster: George Clooney, the Future, and Fields of Gold

George Clooney's future is so bright he's gotta wear shades on the latest poster for Tomorrowland.

The poster heralds the coming of a new theatrical trailer, which Disney will unveil on Monday next week.

For years now, the studio has been keeping a tight lid on Tomorrowland, offering only teasing glimpses of the titular setting and a vague sense of the story.

That story concerns Casey Newton, an optimistic Florida teenager who stumbles upon a fantastical piece of hardware that briefly gives her access to Tomorrowland, a place where the utopian possibilities of science are realities.  In order to get back to this technological wonderland, Casey teams up with Frank Walker, a former child prodigy who grew up into a disillusioned failed inventor bitter over his exile from Tomorrowland.

Britt Robertson of Under the Dome stars as Casey alongside Clooney, who plays Frank.  While this is largely a two-hander between the hopeful youngster and the disillusioned old grump, the cast also includes Hugh Laurie, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key, Pierce Gagnon, Lochlyn Monroe, and even Tim McGraw.

This is the second live-action feature film from director Brad Bird.  He's been doing great work in animation for years, having directed The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille before making his live-action debut with the crackerjack entertainment of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

The great Judy Greer sang Bird's praises in an exclusive interview with IAR Managing Editor Jami Philbrick, saying, "Brad was so mellow. He was just like, 'Hi, this is so fun. This is so cool.' It was so weird. I was like, you’re directing a billion dollar movie and you’re just like, 'What’s up. I’m glad you made it and could do it. Let’s see what’s going to happen in this scene.' It was so easy and fun."

Bird collaborated on the Tomorrowland screenplay with Lost/Prometheus scribe/producer Damon Lindelof, who cooked up the story with Jeff Jensen, the Entertainment Weekly writer behind the excellent graphic novel Green River Killer.

Tomorrowland opens in theaters and IMAX on May 22nd.  Tune in next week to see the theatrical trailer.  Same Rogue time, same Rogue channel.
