'Zoolander 2' Set for February 12, 2016; Derek & Hansel Crash the Valentino Fashion Show

Now this is how you announce a release date:

As fictitious male mega-models Derek Zoolander and Hansel walked the runway at the Valentino Fashion Show, causing a worldwide ruckus, Paramount took to Twitter to announce that Zoolander 2 is set to hit a theater near you on February 12, 2016.

The Valentino Show – a big, big deal during Paris Fashion Week – is actually a show for women's fashions, but when you're as ridiculously good looking as Derek and Hansel, concepts like gender aren't terribly relevant.  Plus they've got plenty to celebrate.

Ben Stiller, the writer, director, and star behind Zoolander, has been trying to get a sequel off the ground for years.  A few months ago, long after we'd given up on Zoolander 2, the  studio suddenly cottoned to Stiller's sequel, which started looking a whole lot more likely.

Now Zoolander 2 is actually imminent.  Production is set to take place in Rome, with Stiller directing and starring again, almost fifteen years after Zoolander

Wilson reprises his role as Derek's rival-turned-BFF Hansel (so hot right now), with Christine Taylor also returning as courageous reporter Matilda Jeffries.  Penelope Cruz joins the party as the new female lead, about whom we know next to nothing aside from the fact that she'll be beautiful.

For years during Zoolander 2's protracted development, Jonah Hill was on board to play the new villain, but it's not clear if that's still the case.  We're expecting Will Ferrell to dust off keyboard necktie inventor Mugatu, even if it's just for a cameo.

In the almost-fifteen years since Zoolander learned to turn both ways, his first movie has gone from being a modest theatrical success to a full-blown cult comedy and a still-quotable part of the popular culture.  It's only appropriate, then, that these two ambi-turners flashed Blue Steel and Magnum on a real-life runway today.

Appropriately enough, Vogue has some behind-the-scenes pictures showing Stiller and Wilson hobnobbing with the likes of Anna Wintour.  To see them on the runway, though, just keep scrolling right here:
