Tom Cruise is Topless in 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' Trailer, Poster, and Images

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to check out a slew of Mission: Impossible 5 first look promotion, from the first teaser trailer to a trio of official pictures to a vertiginous poster.

Like an IMF agent suddenly whipping off an uncannily convincing rubber mask, Paramount pulled a surprise move today, unveiling a maelstrom of marketing for the sequel, which it turns out is called Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.  It's all in anticipation of the full theatrical trailer, which hits on Monday.

This installment finds Washington bureaucrats disbanding the Impossible Mission Force.  Unfortunately, the world is under threat from the Syndicate, a shadowy organization that is succinctly described as the "anti-IMF."  So, of course, it's up to Ethan Hunt and his team to save the day through a series of breakneck action sequences and some light quippery.

Every Mission: Impossible involves Tom Cruise dabbling in some aerial insanity for a signature action moment.  This time, Cruise's intrepid Hunt climbs around on an Airbus A400 as it takes to the skies.

"I've often sat on airplanes, looked out and thought, 'What it would be like out there on the wing?' " Cruise tells USA Today. "This is the (stuff) I think about.”

The big plane stunt is an attempt to top the Burj Khalifa sequence from Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, the sequel that proved this franchise still has plenty of life left in it. "We knew anything we did was going to be compared with the Burj. But it's not like you could wait for someone to build an even taller building," director Christopher McQuarrie explains. "We keep pushing the envelope."

McQuarrie, the Oscar-winning writer of The Usual Suspects and the director behind The Way of the Gun and Jack Reacher, has proven he has the chops to put together thrilling, clear action with a basis in reality, going for wide shots and actual stunts rather than shakeycam nonsense and CGI.  So our hopes for Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol are high.  Plus, the screenplay is co-written by Drew Pearce, who knocked it out of the park on Iron Man Three.

Cruise is joined once again by his Ghost Protocol compatriots Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg, along with franchise veteran Ving Rhames (the only actor other than Cruise to appear in all five installments).  This time, they get support from Rebecca Ferguson as a new ally.  They face off against Sean Harris as the villain and Alec Baldwin as the head of the CIA, who apparently has no love for the IMF generally and Hunt in particular.

Check out Cruise, Renner, Rhames, and Ferguson in these first three official images:

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is set to open July 31st on regular and IMAX screens.
