First Look: Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in 'Batman v Superman'

Somehow, Zack Snyder managed to keep his Lex Luthor under wraps throughout the long, long production of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

But now, a year out from the DC mega-movie's release, Snyder has unveiled our first look at Jesse Eisenberg as one of the greatest villains in all comic book lore.

If you were one of the many fans who lost their damn minds when Eisenberg was cast, this look at him and his authentic chrome-dome ought to sooth your jangled nerves.  This thing looks like a prison photo, and though it's in black and white, Eisenberg is every shade of intense and even a little unnerving.  We're not looking at the stammering boy-man of Adventureland or even the exceptionally intelligent geekery of The Social Network, but instead a nightmare of a man whose eyes burn with fiery, conniving hate.

“He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure,” Snyder himself tells Entertainment Weekly, “other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course.”

“Our Lex is disarming and he’s not fake,” Snyder explains. “He says what he believes and he says what’s on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it’s all there.”

Eisenberg squares off against Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill the titular neon gods, obviously, with Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman in her belated cinematic debut.

The film, a first course in the DC Cinematic Universe Warner Bros. is building, has plenty of familiar comic book characters to join them.  Also appearing are future Justice Leaguers Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and probably The Flash (Ezra Miller), along with Lois Lane (Amy Adams), Doomsday (a bunch of CGI), Perry White (Laurence Fishburne), Alfred Pennyworth (Jeremy Irons), Martha Kent (Diane Lane), and maybe even a new Carrie Kelley-style Robin (Jena Malone, according to the rumor).

Last year, we heard that Eisenberg was in talks to bring his Luthor to Suicide Squad, next summer's all-star villainous team up also featuring the Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and Deadshot (Will Smith), among many others.  It's unclear if Eisenberg's talks with the studio actually bore fruit, but if they did, he'll likely show up for a relatively quick appearance.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice dawns in theaters exactly one year from now, on March 25, 2016.
