'X-Men: Apocalypse' Adds Jubilee and a Bunch of Mutant Cameos

Jennifer Lawrence may be kicking rocks after X-Men: Apocalypse, but director Bryan Singer is lining up a cadre of mutants to continue the franchise beyond next summer's anticipated sequel.

The director has announced that actress Lana Condor will make her feature debut with a yellow trench coat in X-Men: Apocalypse, while a bunch of other X-Men are rumored for cameos.

Last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past was absolutely jam-packed with mutants and Apocalypse won't bee too different, it seems.  The First Class crew of Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult are all returning for a third go-round, the last for which they're contractually obligated.  They're joined by fellow prequel vet Rose Byrne, who sat out Days of Future Past.

There are already plenty of new additions, with Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, and Tye Sheridan playing young Jean Grey, Storm, and Cyclops, respectively, along with Kodi Smit-McPhee as li'l Nightcrawler.  The great Oscar Isaac also joins the franchise as the titular villain, the oldest and most powerful mutant in existence.

Now Condor has joined the increasingly crowded ensemble as Jubilation Lee aka Jubilee.  Singer made it known via Instagram, declaring, "I'd officially like to welcome our newest mutant #JubilationLee, #Jubilee @LanaCondor to #XMEN #Apocalypse." A big character on the 90s animated series, Jubilee shoots fireworks-style pyrotechnics from her fingertips.  Interestingly, Jubilee has already appeared in a Singer-directed X-movie before: Katrina Florece played her in 2000's X-Men.

Okay, no on to the cameos, which count as SPOILERS if you're wary of that sort of thing.

Let's go with the unsurprising ones first.  According to Latino Review, Hugh Jackman will appear as Logan, which everybody assumed already since he was such a big part of Days of Future Past and Jackman, who reprises the role for another Wolverine sequel, intends to play the character for the rest of his life.  Then there's Channing Tatum as the rebooted Gambit, who gets his own spinoff movie next year.  He's been rumored for a cameo in Apocalypse for months, so this is to be expected.

Here's the one we didn't see coming: Halle Berry's Storm.  She dusted off her white wig for Days of Future Past, but her role was chopped down to a handful of lines, so the Oscar-winner's involvement in the followup wasn't exactly something we were counting on.  As such, she probably appears only briefly.

Production on X-Men: Apocalypse is set to kick off this April 28th in Montreal.  The final movie in the First Class cycle hits theaters May 27, 2016.  It's just one of three X-movies scheduled for next year, with Deadpool hitting on February 12 and Gambit on October 7.
