'Spectre' in IMAX: James Bond's Next Adventure Going Jumbo-Sized

007's next globe-trotting, womanizing, collateral damage-filled adventure, Spectre, is following in Skyfall's super-sized footsteps.  The twenty-fourth official entry in the evergreen James Bond franchise is coming to the enormous IMAX format.

Spectre is still in production, but Sony, MGM, and EON Productions are turning up the hype-machine in a huge way, unveiling the first teaser trailer today, and IMAX took the opportunity to announce that Daniel Craig's steely blue eyes will once again be projected five stories high.

Skyfall utilized the mega-format and became the highest-grossing 007 movie on the books, as well as the ninth highest-grossing worldwide release of all time, so it's not exactly surprising that Spectre is taking its cue from its immediate predecessor.

Unlike, say, Interstellar, The Dark Knight, and the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Spectre is not utilizing IMAX cameras on select sequences.  It is, however, being shot on film, which is increasingly rare and extra-interesting because Skyfall represented an unusually lush, visually stunning use of the now-ubiquitous digital format.

The MVP of that last movie, cinematographer Roger Deakins, isn't back this time, but Mendes has enlisted the services of Interstellar and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema to shoot this sequel. Many things helped Skyfall set a high-water mark in the half-century cinematic history of Ian Fleming's libidinous spy, but Deakins' contribution can't be overestimated.

We're psyched to see what Hoytema can do with the exotic locales and gorgeous people of Spectre, however, so we're on the edge of our seats waiting for today's teaser trailer.  Stay tuned for that this afternoon.

Spectre opens in stateside theaters on November 6th following its UK debut on October 23rd.
