First Look At After Dark Originals Feature ‘Husk’

If you’re a fan of After Dark Films’ Horrorfest series, we’ve got some great news for you: a set of eight brand new chillers released in partnership with Syfy and Lionsgate, as the After Dark Originals series.

What’s the difference between Horrorfest and Originals? Each and every After Dark Originals film will be exclusively financed and produced by After Dark Films alone, no outsourcing on deck for this mash-up of the macabre.

Much like the popular Horrorfest series, Originals will feature eight new frightening pieces of fiction. While production will be handled by ADF solely, don’t expect much change in structure, as the company has proven committed to releasing independent horror in heaping handfuls to fans across the country on a yearly basis.

Amongst the eight films slated to be released in 2011, Husk looks to be one of the true shiners. Relative (though quite competent) newcomer Brett Simmons penned the script as well as directed the picture, which is currently in the post-production faze.

The film stars Wes Chatham, C.J. Thomason and Devon Graye, and according to After Dark’s official press release focuses on a group of friends who find themselves stuck in some truly unforgiving cornfields.

The official synopsis reads as follows:

When a murder of crows smash into their car windshield, causing their car to crash, the group of young friends, inside, are forced to abandon the vehicle. Stranded beside a desolate cornfield, they see a light on in a window and decide to go in search of help. They head into the fields but instead of finding sanctuary they discover something evil and unnatural lurking in the corn.

After Dark Films CEO Courtney Solomon describes the film as “classic, original horror.” Apparently the film has a nice vintage element to it, as Solomon elaborates, saying “This film is a real throwback to that time; the true 1960s creepiness, a nerve-wracking suspenseful script, and real character development.”

Sounds like a film I could sink my teeth into, minus the bread and butter, of course.

Check out an early glimpse of Husk below, and stay tuned as we bring you official release dates for all eight After Dark Originals!
