This Thanksgiving weekend appears to be a family friendly one. On Thanksgiving day, both Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Disney’s latest Tangled seem to be bringing folks into the theatre!
Warner Bros. latest Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 ruled the box office once again, collecting an estimated $11.5 million in North America. In its first seven days the domestic total resides at $170 million.
Tangled also managed to rope in a large audience that day, thanks to strong reviews and good word of mouth. The animated feature took in over $8 million dollars on its second day of release.
The rest of the new releases didn’t fare quite as well.
Burlesque, the Cher/Christina Aguilera musical only pulled in around $2.5 million while
Love and Other Drugs cashed in at about $1.9 million.
Other notable films include Megamind which managed to find its way into 5th place with $2 million, ending its third week in theatres with $115 million. Unstoppable brought in $2.5 million. Pretty strong considering all the new releases it was up against.
