'Donnie Darko' Director Hypes Kevin Smith's New 'Red State'

You should never invest all you’ve got in another persons opinion. That being said, when that person is as credible as the uber-underrated, and genuinely talented Richard Kelly (Southland Tales, The Box, Donnie Darko), you might make an exception.

Kelly has now had the privilege of viewing Kevin Smith’s new horror flick Red State, and speaking at the Smodcastle screening he was quick to praise the former funny man (I doubt the humor has left Smith’s personality, despite the departure from the comedy genre) and his new picture.

“I have never seen a filmmaker reinvent himself the way you just have. I won’t say anything else because I don’t want to spoil anything. It’s really really exciting. If the movie ends up playing at Sundance, I might actually come up to just see the audience’s response. I can not wait…“ stated Kelly.

If his excitement is as genuine as it sounds, we may have to broaden our expectations of Smith. This could be a man who’s well suited to travel away from the funny more often. Then again, we may be in for plenty of romp, even from the mysterious Red State.
