Daniel Zalewski just wrote a lengthy profile of del Toro for The New Yorker, and it’s a really good read.  Del Toro is a funny, eccentric character – he owns an entire house devoted to his monstrous movie memorabilia.  In conjunction with the article, the magazine created this four and a half minute look at one of del Toro’s infamous sketchbooks, where he first illustrates his cinematic creatures.  The artwork is exquisite and totally unique.  Give the video a look below (courtesy of The New Yorker).

Pretty cool, right?  If you have the time, give the article a read as well; it has some info on At the Mountains of Madness, his upcoming Frankenstein film, and even his plans for The Hobbit back when was directing the two-part prequel.  Plus, you can impress your friends by saying, “I was reading an article in The New Yorker today.”

Is anybody disappointed that del Toro will be adapting Lovecraft instead of helming The Hobbit?
