Though the film has yet to cast the titular slayer of giants, Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Killer is casting up some formidable actors to play the villains. THR's Heat Vision blog reports that Stanley Tucci has joined Bill Nighy in the film from New Line and Legendary. Singer's directing from a script most recently rewritten by his frequent collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, with whom he worked on The Usual Suspects and Valkyrie.
Jack the Giant Killer is a fantasy in which a princess is kidnapped by giants, forcing a young farmer into an adventure to rescue the fair maiden from the hairy-knuckled grasp of the giants. Tucci, who has been in films as varied as
The Devil Wears Prada, The Core, and
Burlesque will be playing a villainous royal advisor looking to put his own butt in the seat of power. Interestingly, Nighy and
John Kassir will play the two heads of the giants' leader.
THR says the search for a lead actor continues, and they mention
Nicholas Hoult as a leading contender for the part. Hoult, you might remember, starred in
About a Boy many moons ago, and has a big role in
X-Men: First Class, the next installment of the franchise that Singer started as director and continues as a producer.
Who do you fine folks think could play Jack in Jack the Giant Killer?
