'Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie' Shooting All Ready

Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, the twisted minds behind the surreal, non-sequitur spewing Adult Swim show Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, have apparently begun shooting their debut feature film Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar MovieThe Wrap reports that filming began on Friday, and that the cast officially consists of Heidecker, Wareheim, Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, Jeff Goldblum, John C. Reilly, Will Forte, Robert Loggia, and William Atherton, most of whom have appeared on the series in the past.

The title Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie is an apt summation of the plot, as Wareheim says that within the film, the duo, "literally get a billion dollars to make a movie, and we make it, and things go awry, and Tim and I just decide to get out of Hollywood and become businessmen in an abandoned mall."

"Semi-abandoned mall," Heidecker clarified. "About 10 percent occupancy."

That's all we currently know about the plot, but Heidecker also discussed the transition from a short television series to a feature film, saying, "It's definitely the biggest thing we've ever done in terms of scope of the size of the production.  Relative to other films, it's tiny, but to us, it's the biggest thing we've ever done, the biggest crew we've ever worked with and the most professional thing we've ever done. And the challenge is to fight against the professionalism and keep things loose."

Gary Sanchez Productions, lorded over by Ferrell and Anchorman director Adam McKay, are producing the film, along with their Funny Or Die all-purpose video-site.  According to Heidecker, the companies shepherded the story from the beginning, "shaping the idea, encouraging us to write, sort of giving us a little lesson in how to make movies because we're so used to the short format."

Wareheim treated the start of shooting with the appropriate gravity, saying, "As principal shooting begins on a film that will change American comedy ... I just hope that the Academy is watching and they get on this boat early, because it's been a while since the Academy awarded the best picture Oscar to a comedy.  It's long past due, but this film offers the Academy the perfect opportunity to award a best picture film to a comedy and maybe even preemptively. I don't know how that works, but we could be looking at a situation where the Oscar is awarded before the film is released."

Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie does not yet have a release date.

Do you think Wareheim and Heidecker can sustain an entire film with the absurd delights that made their Adult Swim show so uniquely enjoyable?
