An explanation for the unconventional angle can be found in the trailer. As the groups of child protagonists film a homemade movie on a super 8 camera, a train, presumably carrying a pissed-off extraterrestrial, goes off the rails in a huge way. Running for safety, the kids knock camera on its side, so the glimpse of whatever was aboard the train will be captured from a sideways angle.
The mystery inherent in the marketing so far appears to be working, as anticipation for Super 8's June 10th release continues to grow. J.J. Abrams is directing from his own screenplay. His cast is led by Joel Courtney, and also includes Kyle Chandler of 'Friday Night Lights', Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, and Noah Emmerich. In a summer dominated by sequels and adaptations, this original project with no big-name stars is a singular beast. Strange what you can sell when you have names like Abrams and Spielberg behind the camera.
Do you think this poster offers too little, or just enough?
