Wonder Woman First Image: Adrianne Palicki

This is not based on any actual experience, since I had yet to be conceived in the 1970's, but it's my understanding that the sight of Lynda Carter in costume on The New Adventures of Wonder Woman ushered many a young gentleman directly into the throes of pubescence.  Based on the first look at Adrianne Palicki as the Amazonian superheroine, I'm not sure history will be repeating itself with the new NBC Wonder Woman series from Ally McBeal creator David E. Kelley.  See for yourself.

While star spangled underoos might not have been preferable, those bright blue pants remind me of day-glow mom jeans. Superhero costumes are always tricky to put on real live actors and actresses.  Outside of the lighting and style of the film or series in which they'll appear, these outfits generally look laughable, but can look stellar onscreen.  That said, this looks much more like a Halloween costume.

The Wonder-Pilot is directed by Jeffrey Reiner, who also directed the pilots for Caprica and Trauma.  More importantly, he also directed four episodes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in 1993.  His cast includes Adrianne Palicki as Diana Themyscira/Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Cary Elwes as a business associate and father figure, and Elizabeth Hurley as a villainous scientist.

Well, do you think this costume can look spiffy in action, despite the photo?  Are there any superhero costumes that actually look good in these sort of promotional pictures?

The picture debuted at Entertainment Weekly, but I first laid eyes on it over at Badass Digest.
