Harrelson got his break playing dim-witted bartender Woody Boyd on NBC's Cheers, and has appeared in a whole mess of films since, including Kingpin, Natural Born Killers, No Country for Old Men, Zombieland, White Men Can't Jump, Indecent Proposal, and Defendor.
The cable movie is based upon the bestselling non-fiction account Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin. While the book encapsulates both sides of the race, the Deadline article perhaps inadvertently implies that the film will focus almost exclusively on McCain's campaign, saying Game Change, "follows John McCain's (Harris) 2008 presidential campaign, from his selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (Moore) as his running mate to their ultimate defeat in the general election." If this is the case, then we might only see Democrat players like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton fleetingly, if at all.
Game Change is directed by Jay Roach, who is most well known as the man behind the Austin Powers franchise, as well as Meet the Parents, but he previously helmed the HBO political film Recount, starring Kevin Spacey. That film chronicled the controversial Florida recount in the 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore, and it limited the appearance of its famous politicians to mere glimpses. Game Change reunites Roach with his recount writer Danny Strong. Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are producing through their production company Playtone.
Would you prefer to see a more expansive Game Change showing both sides of the election, or would you be happy with a film centered on the McCain campaign?
