Savages revolves around a pair of Orange County marijuana growers, played by Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) and Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), who are forced into a dangerous game with an exceedingly violent Mexican drug cartel. Salma Hayek (Freida) plays the head of the cartel, with Benicio del Toro (The Wolfman) as her merciless enforcer.
Deadline broke the news of Lively, Thurman, and Travolta's casting. Blake Lively will play Ophelia, the female lead. Ophelia is the mutual girlfriend of both protagonists, and is kidnapped to coerce them into cooperating with the cartel. Jennifer Lawrence was near a deal to take the role, but opted instead for the lead role in The Hunger Games.
Pulp Fiction stars Uma Thurman and John Travolta are playing Ophelia's mother and an exhausted DEA Agent, respectively.
Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) is the latest actor to join the ensemble adaptation, according to Variety, but details of his role have yet to be divulged.
Oliver Stone is currently rewriting the Savages screenplay, which was written by Shane Salerno and author Don Winslow. The director of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, W., and Alexander has managed to assemble a stellar cast for Savages, and we can only hope that film will be more Platoon than Any Given Sunday.
