Deadline reports that Lynch will be playing the nun who runs the orphanage where Moe, Larry, and Curly were raised, as they never managed to find adoptive parents. The film is not biographical, but is instead divided into three short segments, each just under 30 minutes long, which will highlight the outrageous physical comedy that defined the Stooges. Since Lynch is set to play Mother Superior, it would make sense for her to appear in the first segment, but that's purely speculative at this point.
Jane Lynch is currently enjoying success as Sue Sylvester on the hugely popular Fox series Glee. She is a prolific comedic actress who has brought her irrepressible energy and perfect timing to roles in Role Models, Best in Show, Talladega Nights, Walk Hard, A Mighty Wind, The 40 Year Old Virgin, and on the first season of the Starz series Party Down.
The Three Stooges is scheduled to begin production in May for an unspecified release date in 2012. The Farrelly Brothers, who also directed There's Something About Mary, Kingpin, Dumb & Dumber, and Hall Pass will finally be able to embrace the slapstick lunacy of their comedy idols. Modern Family's Sofia Vergara is currently in talks to play the female lead, who would presumably appear in all three segments of the film, alongside Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, and Chris Diamantopoulos.
