'Hobbit' casting begins

Ah, a glimmer of hope. The much-anticipated The Hobbit is continuing to create a buzz. While the film still has not been greenlit by Warner Brothers, it seems that Peter Jackson is currently here in Los Angeles on business.

What business you may ask? The casting kind! According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is on a casting trip of sorts. The current visit also included New York and the U.K.

While this whole casting thing is (well, was) being kept pretty quiet, it causes a glimmer of hope as fans wait for their ‘Hobbit’ fix. With recent news that even Ian McKellan is getting frustrated, the feeling is that they need to move quickly to finally get this made.

Jackson arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday, and he is working with casting director Victoria Burrows. Maybe the fact that they are spending a large amount of time looking at actors will end up working out for what needs to be a strong cast if they hope to leave the quality of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy intact.

While Jackson’s directing deal isn’t set in stone, it certainly feels that he is the one that should – and eventually will – make the movie the fans have been waiting for.

Who would you want to see play Bilbo Baggins?
