Nathan Lane and Robert Emms Join Relativity's 'Snow White'

Director Tarsem Singh is a proven creator of powerful, meticulously detailed images and worlds, so it's a given that his as-yet untitled take on Snow White will be a fresh, singular take on a beloved fairy tale.  The film won't have to rely exclusively on its visuals, however, as Singh has gathered a dynamic cast, fronted by Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, Lily Collins as Snow White herself, and Armie Hammer as Prince Alcott.  Now, Relativity Media has announced that Nathan Lane and Robert Emms will play supporting roles in the Snow White reimagining.

Here's the press release from Relativity, providing brief breakdowns for Lane and Emms' roles:

(Beverly Hills, CA) May 5, 2011 – Relativity Media has closed deals with Tony Award®-winning actor Nathan Lane and British breakout actor Robert Emms in its upcoming yet-to-be titled Snow White feature directed by Tarsem Singh (Immortals, The Cell).

Lane and Emms join Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts, Lily Collins (The Blind Side), and Armie Hammer (The Social Network) in the yet-to-be-titled Snow White, in which visionary director Tarsem Singh (Immortals) creates a spectacular reimagining of the classic fairy tale. An evil queen and an exiled princess struggle for control of their kingdom in a spirited adventure comedy, filled with jealousy, romance and betrayal, that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over. Pre-production has begun, and principal photography will start in June. The theatrical release date is set for June 29, 2012.

Lane, set to play Brighton, the Queen’s servant, can currently be seen in his recurring role on ABC’s Modern Family and has starred in both the screen and stage versions of The Producers and comedies such as Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Birdcage and The Lion King. Emms, who will play Renbock, Prince Alcott’s valet, will be seen in Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous, set to release September 30, 2011 and Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, out December 28, 2011.

The film's producers are Relativity’s CEO Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter), Bernie Goldmann (300) and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour franchise). The script was written by Melissa Wallack (Meet Bill) and Jason Keller (Machine Gun Preacher).

Relativity currently has the box office hit Limitless in theaters. Looking ahead, Relativity will release Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer based on the popular kids book series on June 10th, 2011, followed by David Ellis’ Shark Night 3-D on September 2nd, 2011. On November 11th, 2011, the studio will release the highly-anticipated Immortals, starring Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Isabel Lucas, Freida Pinto, Luke Evans and Kellan Lutz with John Hurt and Mickey Rourke.

Emms has also appeared on the television series The Street and Monday Monday, with his roles in Anonymous and Steven Spielberg's War Horse, and now Snow White marking him as an actor to watch out for.  Nathan Lane, meanwhile, typifies a ringer, an actor who can unfailingly be relied upon to deliver an exuberant performance, as evidenced by his work in The Producers, Mouse Hunt, Love's Labour's Lost, and The Lion King, as well as his numerous Broadway credits.
