I guess if you've got some of the great creative minds in the movie business at your disposal, you might as well use them.
That was evidently the thinking when Disney executives screened an early cut of their highly-anticipated Tron: Legacy last March. Some very important people were in that screening room: Pixar head honchos John Lassiter and Ed Catmull, The Incredibles director Brad Bird, Toy Story 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt, among others. Based on that screening, Disney hired Arndt and Bird to write some pages for the upcoming re-shoots, which lasted six days last month.
While re-shoots can be a dire proposition sometimes (see: Jonah Hex), I think we can all agree that having a batch of Oscar winners help out isn't really cause for concern. In fact, it may have just made Tron that much more enticing.
Here's Disney’s president of production Sean Bailey's comments on the matter:
“Tron is very much Joe Kosinski’s vision, a vision which is thrilling to me and I hope is thrilling to the fans. What I give Joe and the filmmaking team immense credit for, is this was all born out of how do we give the fans the best movie we can. We were very fortunate that Pixar wanted to play a part in it.”
Tron: Legacy is due to be released this December.
