Keep in mind, this is a red band trailer, and it's not for a foul-mouthed comedy, so that means copious violence and sexiness.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is a movie that I want to see, and a trailer that doesn't just sell a movie aggressively, but actually works as bite-sized bit of pop art. The music, a cover of Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song' by NIN frontman (and Social Network co-composer) Trent Reznor and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, is a perfect accompaniment to the beautifully twisted imagery.
Rooney Mara's Lisbeth Salander is handled perfectly in the trailer, seen only in quick, vicious glimpses, while Daniel Craig's Mikael Blomkvist is more front and center. Joining the two leads in the film are Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright, Goran Visnjic, Joely Richardson, and Embeth Davidtz.
Based on this trailer, cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth, who served the same function on David Fincher's Fight Club, is tearing it up on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Very curious to see what screenwriter Steve Zaillian does with Larsson's novel. We'll find out when the film hits theaters on December 21st.
