Seventy years ago, Captain America creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby made a big statement with the character's first-ever comic book cover, which depicted Cap knocking Hitler on his ass while a slug bounces off his shield. Adding to the coolness of Kirby's dynamic image were its political implications, as it was actually months before the U.S. entered WWII. A thoroughly nifty cast and crew poster for Captain America: The First Avenger lovingly pays tribute to that first cover, as Cap drops the dictator with no end of retro style.
This poster was painted by Paola Rivera and debuted online at Hero Complex. Five very-rare copies were given away as prizes during this weekend's Hero Complex Film Festival.
From left to right on that top row, there's Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Chester Phillips, Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine, and Dominic Cooper as Tony Stark's progenitor Howard Stark. Also, dig the inclusion of the Howling Commandos. Captain America: The First Avenger is directed by Joe Johnston and will be released in both 2D and 3D on July 22nd.
