Daniel Craig Brings It In a New 'Cowboys & Aliens' Sneak Peak

A sneak peek of this summer's Cowboys & Aliens premiered at the Spike Guys Choice Awards on Friday night, and it contains a lot of new footage.  Included is a whole lot of cool-looking action, glimpses of some alien contraptions and structures, more from Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, and Sam Rockwell, and the first dialogue we've heard from Paul Dano.  More importantly, the video presents a strong case that Daniel Craig will easily walk away as the most formidable, swaggering western hero we've seen in decades.  For reals.

This sneak peek video – basically an extended teaser trailer – made its way online courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter.

Seriously, how many swiftly brutal, laconically cool things does Daniel Craig do in that 1:41?  He delivered like nobody's business as Bond, and it looks like he's set to take it up another notch here.

The film is based on the comic book by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, and while the title gives the impression of a tongue in cheek mashup sensibility, it's clear from everything we've seen that director Jon Favreau is taking both the western and science fiction elements very seriously.  After helming both Iron Man and its sequel, Favreau certainly has the blockbuster experience at this point.  Adding to the summer movie credibility is a screenplay with contributions from Star Trek and Transformers writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, along with Lost mastermind Damon Lindelof

Cowboys & Aliens hits theaters on July 29th.
