Inner City vs Outer Space: Red Band Trailer for 'Attack the Block'

Let's say, hypothetically, that an alien invasion force arrives on Earth.  This is a not-infrequent cinematic occurrence, but more often than not, the malicious extraterrestrials spend a lot of time blowing up landmarks, scrapping with the military, and engaging in all manner of global-scale madness.  In the British action-comedy Attack the Block, writer-director Joe Cornish limits the scope to one rough-and-tumble neighborhood in South London, with a bunch of swearing, pot-smoking ne'er do-well-adolescents proving the perfect foil for a gaggle of thoroughly nasty aliens.  The film is already a cult movie, and a new red band trailer will provides a good idea why.  If you're of age, partake in said trailer, post haste.

Without the good folks at Traileraddict, this particular bit of deliciousness would not be here for your enjoyment.

Joe Cornish makes his feature directorial debut with Attack the Block, which is produced by Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz producers Nira Park and Edgar Wright (who also directed all three).  Cornish and Wright also contributed to the screenplay for this year's The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, directed by Steven Spielberg.

The film's cast consists of mostly unknown actors unknown to American audiences, anchored by a small role from the inimitable Nick Frost, who most recently appeared alongside Simon Pegg in Paul, but has provided consistently funny performances in Wright's films.  Also in Attack the Block, though you'll never see his face, is stuntman/movement coach/choreographer/motion capture performer Terry Notary, who has lent his unique skills to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Superman Returns, Avatar, and The Hobbit.  Here, he provides the reference for 'The Creature'.

Attack the Block will receive a limited Stateside release starting July 29th.
