Brad Pitt Gets Statistical in the First Trailer for 'Moneyball'

A film based on a true story about baseball statistics might sound a bit boring, but the first trailer for Moneyball is anything but dry.  In this adaptation of the nonfiction bestseller by Michael Lewis, Brad Pitt plays Billy Beane, the Oakland A's general manager who helped kickstart a new statistical model for measuring performance and drafting players accordingly.  The film boasts a top notch cast, including Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kathryn Morris, Robin Wright, and Chris Pratt, with a script by two of the best writers around: Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian.

The trailer debuted with obnoxious graphics and talking heads on Entertainment Tonight yesterday, but this pristine, official trailer comes straight from Yahoo! Movies

Oscar-winner Zaillian is the screenwriter responsible for Schindler's List, Searching for Bobby Fischer, American Gangster, and Awakenings, while Sorkin, who just won an Oscar of his own for The Social Network, also wrote A Few Good Men and created The West Wing and Sports Night.  In short: they're both very, very good.

Moneyball is directed by Bennett Miller, who previously helmed Capote and the wonderful documentary The Cruise.  And if you're wondering why the visuals in this trailer are so crisp, that's because the film was shot by cinematographer Wally Pfister, the Oscar-winning director of photography behind Inception, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, and The Prestige, amongst others.

All that talent on both sides of the camera will be in evidence when Moneyball hits theaters on September 23rd.

Is anyone else excited to see Chris Pratt, who so capably delivers hilarity as Andy on Parks and Recreation, playing catcher-turned-first-baseman Scott Hatteberg?
